Meet Uhlone | Music Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Uhlone and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Uhlone, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
There are many misconceptions about the music industry for instance people think it is a massively large circle of people, but in reality, it’s very small.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
First, I have to start off by saying It is never easy getting into the music industry. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication. You really have to stick to the grind in order to be successful. I am fortunate enough that I started my career at such a young age because I feel like a lot of my hard work as a teenager paved the way to where I am today. Although I had to overcome many challenges much earlier in life than most, my life journey thus far has led me to my success. From a young age, I’ve always been drawn to music. I was fortunate enough to be exposed to music through a piano lesson at the age of three but did not stick with it because reading sheet music was close to impossible due to the fact that the notes kept falling off the page. Not sticking with piano lessons was a challenge I had to overcome, but in a weird sense, it was a gift. I taught myself to play piano by ear. In addition to this, growing up I also struggled in school. I felt like I did not truly belong in an academic setting. This made me feel isolated and lonely but I knew I always had music to turn to. After bouncing around traditional schools I decided I needed a more specialized curriculum where I could incorporate my music into learning. Fortunately, this allowed me to get serious about pursuing my music career, building my brand, and led me to get signed by the age of 14 for my first music production deal. My name Uhlone (alone) is very symbolic. The “Uh” symbolizes the hesitation one has to be alone with one’s self. However, I believe it is important to get to know and create a healthy relationship with ourselves as an individual independent from others. The “One” in Uhlone represents everyone coming together as “one” through listening to my music. Lastly, I’ve struggled and still struggle with being antisocial media in an industry and world that values a strong social media presence. I would rather live in the moment and be present while I work on my music and perfect my craft. I honestly do not have time to put energy into social media because I put all of my energy into making the best music I can. As of lately, I’ve been more into hosting “Clubhouse” talks with other industry professionals. “Clubhouse” and “Twitch” are my favorite platforms because they provide a live experience that allows me to be more present and in the moment, unlike photo-based platforms. I also like that both of these platforms connect me to new like-minded people that share my passion for music. I have also learned a lot from these talks and find them very beneficial. My advice for others who also do not enjoy creating content for social media is to try to make some content for each platform and then decide which one suits you best and stick to that platform. It is better to have quality content than to have content on every platform.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Unfortunately, due to Covid, going out in L.A. looks pretty different than normal. Lately, I’ve made my house and studio inviting, safe, and fun, so I normally just have a few friends over and we kick it.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are numerous people I would contribute my success to and “shoutout”, from mentors who then have turned to become family. One person in particular, who I would consider family, would be Jesse Carmichael. He is there for me when it comes to music but more importantly in my journey here on earth as well. He is the person I can easily talk to not just about music, but about life as a whole. Lastly, Jesse is someone who pushes me to become a better artist, a better musician, and overall, a better human being.
