Meet Robin Reetz | Cosigned Cofounder

We had the good fortune of connecting with Robin Reetz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robin, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
My cofounder and I are lucky to be part of a close group of friends who have seen each other through many professional highs and lows over the years. We are in various industries but have called on each other for work advice—sometimes literally calling while hiding in an office bathroom, too scared to open an important email. Some of us were fortunate to have older and more seasoned contacts, but you can’t always bug them about the small things or waste too many favors. Enter: Cosigned. Cosigned provides mentoring on demand for help with job searching, getting through the workday, and career growth. Mentors with hiring and management experience give tailored wisdom and guidance. Cosigned is your expert “phone (or text) a friend.”

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Unlike the more commonly provided life coach or aspirational programs, Cosigned deals with the nuts and bolts stuff: how should a resume look, how to respond to a tough email, how to dive into freelance, etc. Last year we saw that our help was needed more than ever as furloughs and layoffs grew rapidly due to COVID-19. As such, we quickly put together Pay What You Can Specials that are still enormously popular. There is a long road ahead for many people, and we are here to help every step of the way. The Cosigned motto is “Work, together”. I have been “together” with my co-founder and our friends throughout my personal and professional life. Now, I feel duty-bound to offer something that will help others, especially those who have not been as privileged to have the family, friends, and resources that I did.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My cofounder and I love the Santa Monica Proper Hotel. As Cosigned was first coming together, we holed up there. The plush comfort meets organic design gave us the mental space to focus and the physical space to be inspired: the open lobby, the cozy library, the immaculate rooms, the breezy rooftop, the Mediterranean food at Calabra—we even brainstormed while lazily swimming laps in the rooftop pool! When we finally needed a break, we drove down to Laguna Beach to jump in the water at a beautiful little beach, Woods Cove. (Our notebooks came with, of course.)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Those aforementioned friends! Amanda, Krista, and Mardi—all smart, generous, and, above all, supportive women. Together we drilled interview questions, cheered on salary negotiations, and encouraged career changes. Without them, there would be no Cosigned, and we wouldn’t be helping our clients navigate the tricky but unavoidable world of work.
