Meet Chanelle Kazadi: Artist & Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chanelle Kazadi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chanelle, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think risk 9/10 are worth it . A lot of people fear results and I used to be one of those people but now I see the world for what it is and there’s so much more to see if I stayed complacent I would always be curious about “what if” . The best thing I did was take a risk with music and till this day I’m happy I did.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is that I have my own story to tell, every song I try to take you back to how I felt at a certain time. I put a lot of time getting my songs together and my team always gives suggestions on how we can elevate it to the next level whether it’s just a single or album. If I have to rewrite I will that’s just how dedicated I am to this. The past year and a half I’ve been working on my summer album releasing June of 21’, I’ll be releasing my hard work to the world. This album is based on me talking about overcoming a lot of battles being in music such as me being a gay African American woman in a male dominated industry full of egos and more.
I got to where I’m at today by being teachable. You’re not going to know it all in this game it’s constant learning , things change literally everyday. In order to keep up pay attention to the advice given not all advice is good advice but when it’s sincere listen. Being in music isn’t easy you don’t make hits in become famous overnight , it takes grind and a lot of money. I work overtime just to have promotion money for when my music drops.
How I grew up versus who I have been around in music was a challenge and still kind of is . Not everyone is going to understand where you come from or take things you say the way someone close to you would. I had to learn approach and still learning to this day. I can only grow and get better with time.
I want the world to know about the Harvest Hooligang clothing and how hard I work to have my own brand. I started from the bottom and it hasn’t been easy at all but I’m still grinding to the top nothing is going to stop me. My partners AT and Cameron (little brother) have been a tremendous help building the brand with me. They believe it Hooligang as much as I do. Those are my right hand men. Also shout out to my homies Will and Mike for helping with the vision for the album.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d take them to “Foo Chow” in Chinatown , I shot my single “Headshots” video and the food there is GOOD . They definitely live up to their reputation.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First I want to start off by saying RIP nana & my dearest Aunt Yolanda. Those two women are my biggest inspirations, it was nothing but laughter and joy with them. As I look back my number one supporters were always my family & friends (who are family to me too) . They saw potential in me before i started believing in myself as much as I do now . Any feelings of doubt that I had they’ll cancel it quick haha. I’ve been in some very depressing positions but their love and encouragement kept me level headed. I can’t give specific shoutouts because there’s just a list of people that deserves credit to me. They know exactly who they are because after everything they’re still around.
The type of books I’m into is mystery, educational and crime books . I’d say the specific one that’ll forever stick with me is “Magical Strings of Frankie Presto” by Mark Albom
