We had the good fortune of connecting with Keith Bryce and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keith, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
I’d would have to the single most important decision I have made that has contributed to my success has been to choose to believe in myself ! I have shifted creative direction multiple times and choosing to believe in myself continually has always helped me rise to the top when ever I have had difficult times or struggled along the way.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a multifaceted artist. I began painting large format abstracts in my early twenties ( doing commissioned art for interior decorators, local business, and even an NBA basketball player), then I went into fashion design ( started my own clothing line & also competed as a contestant on Project Runway) , soon after I became a professional award winning photographer, and now I’m also a licensed award winning hair artists. I bring all my skills together and specialize in building creative hair collections and compete nationally and internationally with my hair and photography work.
I think what sets me apart from other artists is all my exposure in different fields of art. Having exposure to such a variety of art helps me look at things with a different perspective then most the people in my field.
I have become successful in each facet of my art by working hard, remaining dedicated even in hard times, and by continually having faith in my abilities. I have always believed I deserved success because, I have been willing to take risks and challenge myself to push my creativity by taking on new creative skills. I embrace the opportunity to try new things and embrace the experimental process. By not being afraid of failure it has help me jump into new roles and artistic adventures that have definitely guided through my journey. I try not to look at success as a destination but, as a journey. There is not a singular destination I’m trying to accomplish but, more the desire to inspire others no matter what I’m doing. I want to instill passion into others Peoples lives that I have the opportunity to connect with.
Lessons I have learned along my journey have been to not be afraid of failure, I’ve learned to experiment and push creative boundaries. I have learned to appreciate all other artists and not be to quick to judge because when I find the good in others in others and their work I tend to appreciate myself and my art more. When I can look at other artists with a gentler heart I can carry that positivity onto my own work. When I quick to judge or look negatively on others , I’m also quick to judge myself and my work.
My art and my journey are continually evolving. I try to be open to listening to the energies around me as to help guide me in my own process. The more I’m humble and open, the more my journey naturally unfolds itself.
I just became the Master Artistic educator for a huge beauty company called TheWetBrush & Bio-Ionic. They are supporting me with a flexible schedule so I can still do all my creative photoshoots as well. They have also decided to sponsor my creative hair collections for this years competitions. I thought that might be inspiring information for other artists to hear.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love places with culture and history. I love nature. I love places with diversity and a variety of energies.
I love down town LA for all the awesome shopping and great places to eat; including the fabric , plant , and garment districts. I love the Pasadena swap meet for the awesome energy and variety of things to look at and buy. I love the Strand beach path in Santa Monica and Venice for its beauty, variety of stimulating visuals, fun shopping, and it’s a great workout.
I love hiking near the observatory for it’s beautiful views. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d definitely have to give credit to all the wonderful artists I have had the opportunity to collaborate with. Helping other artists on their personal journeys to success has given me purpose beyond my own creative process. Seeing others succeed through our collaborations has instilled a passion for creativity so much deeper into my soul. Realizing I can help build others up and inspire them through my creative process has fulfilled me amd reminded to never give up when things got tough.
