We had the good fortune of connecting with Zong Chiang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zong, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Hello, I’m Zong Chiang. I am from Taipei, and I’ve been learning music since I was a kid because My father is a musician. In other words, I grew up in a musical environment. I started to learn piano at the age of 3 until I met the touching cello in the third grade of elementary school. By the fifth grade, I used all piano’s black keys to improvise and compose my first song. From that moment, I began to receive formal classical music training until my master’s degree. I was told about more diverse forms and styles of music from high school, and I became interested in multimedia music.

When I was in college, I went to the United States to study at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, majored in Technology and Applied; I started an incredible learning journey. My music “Theory of SF Tower” and other game soundtracks recorded with Sony PlayStation and San Francisco Orchestra members.

In addition to composition and production, I also love performing. Since I was a child, I have had the opportunity to perform, which has created my personality that loves acting! It is a great honor and pleasure to complete my work with different symphony orchestras and chamber music in many performance opportunities in San Francisco performance venues and Shanghai!

After graduating from university, my master’s degree majored in Screen Scoring at the University of Southern California. My music works were recorded in the well-known American recording studios “EastWest Studio, Capitol Records, Warner Brothers Recording Studio, The Bridge,” etc.… in collaboration with top Hollywood musicians. After graduation, I now have different partnerships in film, TV, VR/AR, games, advertising, agency, art administration, etc. I was engaged in diversified music composition and service.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In different music concepts, if you encounter other film materials, the music orientation will be different. In creating my original music album, I like to combine classical music elements with modern electronic music. I want to write “Theme,” that kind of melody is catchy and unforgettable. Use different melodies to outline the characteristics of other characters. Whenever professional musicians reinterpret my music after the composing session is completed, that is the most incredible stage! Hearing the performances of live orchestral or chamber musicians, the music seems to have added incomparable vitality, and the music is more vivid and rich in emotions. In the experience of cooperation with Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Taipei Philharmonic Orchestra, Budapest Scoring Orchestra, Hollywood Musicians, by 2021, I will be invited to create a new composition for Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, showing a diverse genre and recording experience.

In the establishment process, it is not easy because I want to create a music artist type that belongs to my musician and has the power of social media rendering and to bring music fans a different positioning and mode of music composer. In today’s society, musicians must be outstanding in musical creation and have specific administrative capabilities on a practical level. Whether it is the basic concept of the economy or the essential processing ability of administrative affairs, it is imperative. Of course, the self-media operation of social media is also one of the links that music artists need to meet today so that more audiences and people in the field can come into contact with your expertise and abilities.

In 2020, I established my own company, “ZONG MUSIC INC.,” which is a multimedia music entertainment company that gathers the capabilities of various people: including music creation, arrangement, production, contracting music services, artist management, and music. The content of administrative affairs. In 2021, our company is discussing future cooperation and opportunities with multiple art platforms and exhibition venues, hoping to have more contemporary art and music integration!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friend comes to LA, I would recommend Hollywood Hills. I am very deeply impressed. This is one month before the outbreak of Covid-19. I had an experience climbing a mountain with friends from other places. The view of LA from above is very spectacular, and the feeling of air isolation from the world is very comfortable!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The education at USC brought me significant impact and enrichment. From teachers’ teaching to the actual music writing process, I realized the importance of group cohesion and execution in the process. In this highly precious and intensive course of study, it is necessary to have extreme resilience in self-requirements and contact students in different fields. It is not easy! In various areas, the topics and interests discussed are significantly different every time. This is the most exciting thing!
