We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabriela Babila and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabriela, how do you think about risk?
Life is all about risks and we encounter them everyday. Tomorrow is never promised and the life you live depends on the choices you make. Some risks are bigger than others and when it comes to entrepreneurship it’s the risk of failing that you have to weigh when choosing your path. But success requires taking risks. For myself I knew that the thought of regretting not going for it or trying to fulfill my dream would be far more impactful than the outcome of failure. We often allow our emotions to get in the way of logic and although failing is scary and daunting with it comes lessons. So, I would rather have lessons, more knowledge, experience and one hell of a story than regretting not pursuing and fulfilling my vision. Just remember If you don’t risk failing, then you can’t succeed.
What should our readers know about your business?
Matana believes pregnancy changes you, but only for the better. We believe through a skincare transition, women can feel empowered to easily take care of themselves and more confident. We crafted luxurious, feel-good, skincare for all skin types and at any phase of motherhood to create special moments for themselves and hone in on self-care practices.
We are only a year since launch and there has been so many lessons and challenges and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. Something that has helped me along the way is self-awareness and knowing what my limitations are and how can I break through those barriers to achieve success.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many beautiful sights to see in Southern California but one of my recent favorite places to go is Napa Valley. There are so many things to do besides drinking wine all day (not that I’m opposed to that). It truly is such a beautiful place and would probably stay at the Solage Auberge Resorts where we’d enjoy their spa, eat by the pool and visit beautiful wineries afterwards. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Community and a tribe is so important for entrepreneurs. Which is why I have to shoutout, HeyMama Co., a network of working mothers who provide support, guidance and tools for working mothers. It really does require a tribe to succeed and I can’t imagine going through the path I’m in without all the amazing women I’ve met through their network.
