Meet Ken Gregory: Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ken Gregory and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ken, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk taking, my personal definition, is the opportunities presented by life that define us as a person. And there are two types of Risk-takers. Low and High. High risk-takers, like myself, thrive on the ability of being able to step out on faith, unaware, or better yet uninhibited by the numerous pitfalls and extremely high uncertainty that comes with taking risks. Primarily because, when this one life that we’ve been given is over, we want to walk away from it and say to ourselves, “That was one helluva ride and I thoroughly enjoyed myself!”

Acting is ALL about RISKS! I love the way my Acting Coach put it, ‘Whereas everyone else is running from the fire of a burning building, Actors are running to it and into it, everytime we embrace a role that requires a new level of vulnerability and emotional recall of past hurts and anguish, in order to fully immerse ourselves into the circumstances of the individual’s life we’ve just agreed to live out on camera. And it’s in those types of roles we risk to portray, that we find our greatest reward.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As an actor, more so as a creative/creator I’ve been able to executive produce content in order to overcome the NOs of this industry. 90% of an actors professional life is spent auditioning, yielding an even smaller percentage of booking a role. So in order to overcome such challenges, I’ve created content and built stories around the lives of some of the most prolific people I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing. This helps me maintain a healthy mental state and overcome the NOs associated witg being in an EXTREMELY competitive industry.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If the bestie were to come visit me, because it’s Hollywood, I know he’d want to hit the usual suspects of must-see tourists selections, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Chinese Theater, Runyon Canyon, etc…. But given that I’ve become so entrenched in the business, my bestie would definitely want to do a produced scene, which of course, I’d set up and have produced at JIG Reel Studios in East LA. Where we’d play out our favorite procedural scene, Law and Order, given that we had loved the show and now have an opportunity to recreate a special scene with just the two of us. Two actors living out our wildest dream on screen for the world to see.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My acting coaches, Howard Fine and Marilyn McIntrye from Howard Fine Acting Studio; and Diane Charles, Robin Dale Meyers and Jim Nieb from Margie Haber Studio have been my guides, my mentors and my muses throughout my acting career. They have helped me discover the parts of myself that I have been able to glean from in order to fully live the lives of some of the most challenging characters I’ve taken on the risk to portray on film and on stage.
