We had the good fortune of connecting with Katharine Nicole Magsaysay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katharine Nicole, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand is that I allowed myself to do these three things:

Risk
Ask for Help
and accepted failure and saw it as a learning opportunity instead.

It took a few years to find the confidence to allow those three things to work harmoniously together. Asking for help has always been a big challenge for me because I used to view it as failing if you had to ask for help. Once I realized that it was more of a super power, I did it more often. Taking risks was also a big part of my success because if you don’t try things and have this “failure to launch” mentality, nothing would get done. When things didn’t work out, I went back and evaluated all the things that could be done better for the next client or event.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Say Say Experience is for mission-driven creatives who don’t know where to start in business. Say Say Experience is the one-stop top shelf shop to bring your business idea to life and launch through true collaboration, co-creation, and full-service creative direction.

What sets my business up from others is how diverse my team truly is. I’ve been in agencies and hired by agencies for the past few years, but didn’t see the diversity that I was looking for. So I said, hey, let me just create it myself.

The entire goal of creating Say Say Experience was to be able to show people that they have someone they can hire that can identify with them and can understand them too!

It’s been a very long journey to get here, and it wasn’t easy. I failed A LOT! I was pivoting more than an ice skater on competition day. It was scary and even times where I literally just said “Fuck this, I’m done”. But would wake up the next morning and push through and keep going.

Lessons I’ve learned is that it’s really about choosing your HARD. Everything is hard, either it’s a 9-5 or building your own business, it’s all hard. It’s choosing which hard you want to focus on and believe in yourself!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Los Angeles has so much to offer! From heading to Griffith Park Observatory to take in the views, shopping down on Melrose Ave, and enjoying the Venice boardwalk, there is something for everyone.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give recognition to all the people who have helped all along the way. From my best friends, Trisha Mendoza & Monica Schrock & Kasey Phillips, my mom, Imelda Magsaysay and to my family members, Celsie Solon, Jade & Jeff Marvan, and Cybele Ensil, And business mentors, Elaine Lou Cartas and John Schreiber.
