Meet Abby Ramsay | Actress & Model

We had the good fortune of connecting with Abby Ramsay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abby, why did you pursue a creative career?
I just really wanted to do something I loved with my life. Or perhaps I really just didn’t want to feel stuck doing something I didn’t want to do with my life. I consider myself to be a creative person. I love telling stories and creating pictures and images and just sharing my passions with others. Making a living out of doing that is the ultimate goal. Thankfully, I was lucky enough to surround myself with people who supported and encouraged my creativity and fed that part of my mind. They not only encouraged my acting, but writing, drawing, singing, modeling, and anything else that could feed that creative bug. Not to say there wasn’t an equal amount of cautioning and discouragement, but I think that also motivated me to work harder, and really push myself to find my own opportunities outside of what was presented to me. There is a delicate balance between encouragement and general stubbornness (and perhaps a dash of spite) that really helped me make the decision to make a career out of the arts.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
With quarantine, a lot of the film and modeling industry has reached a bit of a standstill. I have been doing what I can to keep the creativity flowing, and myself occupied. I was lucky enough to work on set in 2020, and work on a hopeful animated series with some friends. I started streaming a Pathfinder 2E campaign on twitch with my friends, The League of Amazing Adventurers @Tabletoprolls (it’s a tabletop roleplaying adventure game) every Wednesday to add some normality to my schedule, and keep that acting gear turning. I started working on self portraits more, and opening myself up to more brand deals. I’ve been writing my own content this past year, and generally broadening my creative horizons. I think the ability to interweave my different interests together has really come in handy this past year, and kept me out there. It hasn’t been easy. I’m sure many other creatives have felt pretty hopeless this past year, wondering if this was really the path for them. But ad for me, I know I did not struggle and claw my way to where I am just to stay where I am. It’s always been about finding the right environment and people to encourage you and help you through those rough patches. And this year was one heck of a rough patch. I think that’s an important part of who I am as a person. I do try to push myself, but I understand when I need breaks and support from those around me. That way, when I come back to my craft, it is just as vibrant as ever, and what I put out is something I can be proud of.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve thought about this a lot. I’m not too far away from getting my second vaccine, and I am ready to get out in the world a bit after being cooped up inside for a year. Here’s my post quarantine to do list. 1-Go to the beach. I’m thinking somewhere in Malibu> Somewhere with rocks and tide pools to explore.
2-Find a waterfall. I’ve heard there are some nice hiking trails with waterfalls. It sounds like a good time and nice summer activity.
3- Conveyor-belt sushi restaurant. It was the last place I went to before quarantine started, and I have been dying to go back for over a year.
4- El Tejano. It used to be a fun hang out spot with great frozen margaritas, and I miss going there with friends.
5- The Getty. I just want to look at some nice art and lay in the sun at their garden. It’s a beautiful place.
6- The farmers market. I don’t care which one it is, I just miss going.
I’m not picky at this point. I just want to get out of the house.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I know a lot of creative people have at least one high school teacher they have to thank for encouraging their path, and I have to dedicate a lot of that to my english teacher Mrs. Rauch. She was always there to talk to about my worries and ambitions, and she encouraged me to write the stories that I would want to act in and bring to life instead of just waiting for the dream project to come along. And although the chances of a high school teens high fantasy series coming to life are slim to none, even years later, writing those stories has been quite the comfort to me throughout the industry standstill of the past year, and has encouraged me to keep my spirits up and ambitions in sight in hopes that someday they may see the light of day.
