Meet Abbie Renzema | Artist and CEO

We had the good fortune of connecting with Abbie Renzema and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Abbie, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I always dreamed of having a creative career but I struggled with self doubt for years. I think as artists we know when we have something that we just MUST do- I was definitely made to be an artist despite not being sure of myself. I finally reached a point where I decided to just really give it a go and I’m so fortunate that it worked out for me. I believe that with a dash of creative skill and determination that anyone else can do it too!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My goal with my art is to encourage others. I love making art that speaks to people. I got to where I am today by staying true to my voice and by being consistent with creating. Although it wasn’t always easy, I’ve been encouraged along the way by my fans that love to hear my little sentiments. The hardest part for me was overcoming my own fear of being judged and putting myself out there. Once I got used to that, it hasn’t been so bad!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I own a brick and mortar shop called Local Oasis in my city of Las Vegas, NV, located in the arts district. It’s also my favorite part of town! Here I sell my art as well as gift items and art from other local makers and brands that I love. Around the corner are some of my favorite bars and restaurants. My boyfriend is a sous chef at my favorite restaurant, Esther’s. They’re a california style italian restaurant. You can’t go wrong with their pasta and cocktails. I also love Main St. Provisions, another nearby restaurant. Across the street from Esther’s, you’ll find my favorite wine bar, Garagiste (I’ve been known to eat charcuterie there as dinner). As you continue down the street you’ll find my friend Pam’s cocktail bar, Velveteen Rabbit. They have the best cocktails in Vegas as well as the most charming ambiance. We all know Vegas has so much to offer but some of my other favorite things to see are Ferguson’s Downtown, Red Rock National Park, Valley of Fire National Park, and the Seven Magic Mountains.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think the book that has helped me get to where I am today is Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. She helped me toss off fear and make art for the sake of making beautiful things, which eventually turned into the business I have today.
