We had the good fortune of connecting with Marinna Benzon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marinna, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an artistic and creative career due to the fact that it felt like I didn’t have the option to take another path; and in truth, I could’ve very well taken another route in my life but if you feel like something isn’t right in your gut, then don’t pursue it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My work, I claim at least, to be honest and eclectic work that best reflects my personal narrative as a first generation, queer woman of color navigating through. My main mediums are poetry, acting, sketch comedy, screenwriting, producing and video production and post posduction. It’s still a difficult journey to trend, this film and creative industry, but it’s mine and it brings be such selfish happinness. What I want people to know about my brand is that its intended to elevate diverse narratives from a safe and honest place.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Here’s the day plan!
-Have a lavish breakfast!
Go for a run or a passionate walk in the nearest park
-Hit up a record store or a book store, which ever is closest.
-Go to the Movies and watch something gut-wretching or something you never pick.
-Grab a bite at a new place that you’ve never heard about but they seem to have great reviews on yelp
-Get a drink at Boardners
-Then meet some strangers that will be our friends in WeHo
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to bestow a little shoutout with the people, creators and friends I have made at Second City Hollywood because they are a relentless, creative and supportive band of comedic hooligans that has shaped me and challenged me to be a better performer.
