Meet Piaget Ventus | Actress

We had the good fortune of connecting with Piaget Ventus and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Piaget, how does your business help the community?
As a Black Actress in Hollywood I want to help broaden the representation of brown women. Hollywood is thankfully starting to be more inclusive when it comes to POC and giving us more diverse roles. We however are still not seeing enough darker skinned women with leading roles it’s still often light skin or biracial looking women who seem to be the representation of all Black women and I want to help give other deeper toned women their person to aspire to or see themselves in as well.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been acting my entire life my mother saw my interest in theatre early so the schools and activities that she put me in were geared toward elevating my budding interest.

Acting came naturally to me but the business of it did not. It wasn’t until I was out of the safe bubble of academia that I realized how lucky I was. In college I had access to unlimited theatre and film projects. I was always in a production or working on a scene for class. I was literally immersed in an all you can eat buffet of acting and I almost didn’t realize how unrealistic all this acting access would be once I graduated. I quickly figured it out when I moved straight away to NYC.

I figured like college I would see an audition notice, audition and boom I would do the show. It’s seems so naive now but that’s just not how it works. To even get the privilege to audition or even acquire the knowledge of where to look for an audition is a process and a skill set on its own.

Navigating that learning curve was a lot. I quickly had to figure out how to find auditions (backstage was my best friend at one point) but that costs money. That was my next business lesson the cost or I should say the investment it takes to pursue an acting career, but with limited resources. I got crafty and shared a backstage account with a friend. Getting crafty should have been a course in school because that’s something you will always have to do in this industry.

I also had to come to terms with the fact that your education doesn’t stop just because you have this cute little degree that says Bachelors of Fine Arts for Acting hanging on your wall, you have to keep working on your craft it is imperative to keep taking classes.

I feel like I spent many years just making a lot of mistakes but I think those mistakes have made me not only a stronger person but a very grounded and motivated actor. I now understand the business of acting and with that knowledge and my talent I know I will be unstoppable.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well Soho House West Hollywood for sure! It’s such a great place to network with other industry professionals and it’s honestly just a great time in general.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to My mother Lesley McKenzie and grandmother Hyacinth McKENZIE these two beautiful and strong women raised me and always encourage me to go for dreams. I am so lucky and blessed to have such advocates likes these two. They keep me going because pursuing acting can be very emotionally draining. The rejection is tough but they keep me positive and inspired to keep working hard and staying persistent.

I also want to dedicate my shoutout to my incredibly handsome and talented boyfriend Sean Gallagher, he is such a motivator. He is someone I look up to and not only admire but respect as an actor and writer. He is literally the hardest working person in Hollywood. His work ethic is unmatched and he is always willing and available for anything I need career wise. I am so lucky to have someone who understands the industry I’m in and is also sounding board for ideas.
