We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenn Bieri and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenn, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I created Move with Jenn because there is a stigma in the fitness and yoga world that moving is only for some people. You have to look a certain way or be a certain type of person to be included and I couldn’t disagree more. Movement is for EVERYONE and I believe in creating a safe, non-judgmental, accessible space for people to practice, learn and explore what movement looks like for them. By teaching people to be compassionate with themselves, to listen to their bodies and to build a better relationship with themselves, it changes how they connect and treat others around them creating a better, more positive world. Movement is critical for our health and I want people to have fun moving again; not because they have to but because they want to. Because they get to.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Move with Jenn is all about making moving fun, connecting with yourself and focusing on your long-term health. I teach online yoga and fitness classes but am also active on YouTube and Instagram. On my social media you’ll find classes, challenges, how-to videos, livestreams with other content creators and thought-provoking captions that help people get educated, motivated and change their inner scripts.
I am most excited about having a positive impact on people’s lives – helping them connect better with themselves and feeling better in their body and mind. Yoga and fitness are my passion and that comes across in my content too. What sets me apart from others is that I don’t teach for me, I teach for you. That means that I encourage you to listen to your body. I create a safe place for you to be yourself and connect with yourself. I help you overcome your barriers so you can dream bigger.
I got to where I am because of the amazing community and connecting with others. I love meeting new people and I love bringing people together. It hasn’t been easy because I do this on the side of my full-time job but it’s so worth it. It’s taken a lot of re-balancing in my life, planning ahead and finding new ways to do things. It’s challenged me to learn new skills and check my ego at the door. The biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way are: ask for help and just start. People are always willing to help if you reach out and having a supportive community around you will keep you motivated on those hard days. You’ll also never feel ready, so just start and adjust from there.
What I want people to know about me and my brand is that I’m here to help and will do so in any way I can. So if you’re new to fitness or yoga and are not sure how or are intimated to start, reach out to me and let’s figure it out together.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m from Toronto and love being in the city. First things first, we’d get out for a run followed by a yoga class. Then we’d go for brunch on a patio somewhere on Queen East. I really like the East end because it’s super chill, casual and everyone is so nice. Next we’d spend some time outside – either a trail walk or bike to the beach. Dinner would be somewhere on the Danforth grabbing some Greek food. And we’d have to stop at one of the breweries like Black Lab or Avling (maybe both).
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to the amazing YouTube community. Daniella Joy who I met through YouTube is how I even got this opportunity and so many other amazing YouTuber’s who inspire me everyday and have supported us since the beginning such as Adrian and Nico, Prepping with Sarge, FitStem, FitLabb, BendnstretchwithSue, The Tattooed Ronin, Oggiesilverfitness, Kirsten Quickfit, Majors and Kevin Exconde. There are so many others and I wish I could include them all in here and I’m so sorry if I missed you in this list.
I also want to shoutout my partner Dave who pushed me to take the scary step of starting Move with Jenn. This was something I have wanted to do for 10 years but if it wasn’t for him suggesting that we create a YouTube channel, none of this would have started. I’d like to thank Jeff for being a catalyst, my sounding board and biggest cheerleader. I’d also like to thank our mom’s, Daniel, Jessie and Jen for showing up for us consistently over the last year. And lastly, I’d like to thank My Vinyasa Practice and the amazing community they have created. If it wasn’t for them building such a beautiful yoga teacher training program and believing in affordable content, I may have never gotten certified as a yoga teacher. All of these individuals have provided guidance, support and positivity to keep building and dreaming. So thank you your support means so much more than I could ever explain.
