We had the good fortune of connecting with Cami Petyn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cami, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I don’t think there’s ANY way to succeed/grow without taking risk. Period. Not to mention- everything is technically a risk. Even staying in your comfort zone is a risk, considering how much you can potentially miss out on. When I started thinking this way it gave me a lot more confidence to do more things that scared me. Dropping my life plans to pursue music was definitely scary, but, if I never took that risk, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Was one of the best decisions I ever made. Definitely recommend taking more risks.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It definitely was not an easy path to get to where I am today with my music. As I mentioned, when I first started I was SO SCARED. My biggest obstacle was overcoming my own damn self. There were many times I wanted to give up solely because I was so scared & insecure, but, my passion for music was always greater than my negative emotions. That was definitely a major lesson for me- as long as your love for the craft is bigger than your fear of failing- you will prevail. That being said, a lot of my music out today is actually about my insecurities lol, but, since I’ve grown my confidence I’ve made a lot more fiery and exciting work that I’m super excited for others to hear soon 😉

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Okay so I’m a coffee addict so we’d start at one of my fave coffee shops- Silverback Coffee in Silverlake. Then, the coffeeshop is actually right next to one of my fave bookstores- Stories. We’d sit on the patio and read and drink our coffee. Oh and then I’m an absolute whore for Pad Thai so we’d go down to the Westside and go to Thai Vegan. Then hopefully go see some live music somewhere, I used to love Schoolnight or SoFar sounds shows before COVID hit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When I first started music I was saturated in insecurities and fear. At the time I had an incredibly supportive and uplifting vocal coach who really gave me the confidence I needed to carry me through those beginning periods. She also taught me the essentials, I am incredibly thankful for her. Also, I watched “motivational youtube videos” on the daily haha, Gary Vee was my go-to when I was feeling scared. So big shoutout to whoever creates those motivational videos lol. And of course, my followers & subscribers online were always so supportive & motivating. When I was feeling down I would read their uplifting comments, they truly helped me more than they know.
