We had the good fortune of connecting with Alejandro Zabala and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alejandro, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I wanna say risk has always being very much a huge part of any decision making in my life and since my career is part of my life ,it has over spilled there too. Thinking back to when i made the decision to pursue a life in visual arts (which included a career of makeup artistry in film) , risk was the deciding factor . At the time , i had an amazing corporate job working as a color consultant in a top New York company that facilitated cover ups for burn victims and or people with various skin conditions, the job was a dream , on paper , but it wasn’t my dream , so i quit . I took a huge financial risk and moved to LA to start fresh , this time doing exactly what I wanted with no fear but trust in the unknown. So to me, risk is the magical ingredient in any success story, sometimes as big as a Life defining move or as small as a unconventional color choice in eye shadow. To take risks is to trust ur intuition without fear of the unknown.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started my career in visual arts at a very young age , unknowingly of course , as most of us do , i think we call these hobby’s , I call them instinctively training, for what ? I didn’t know at the time . This ‘career’ would change many times throughout time , i started in photography , editing , and made my way to makeup , where i found a home. I got to see my work in magazines , film and runways , definitely a part of a dream come through. I like to think that my makeup style and overall vibe is filled with beautiful unique natural yet alien-like elements . It fills my belly with joy to either transform or enhance a face. And to see the smile or amazed gaze in my subjects face. While it wasn’t easy , i wanna say that consistency was the key for me to still be on my chosen path. I am the son of immigrant parents who passed on all their strength , grace and talents and i am here to make sure i pay them back by doing what they only dreamed for themselves but that due to circumstances, couldn’t have.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Okaaaayy ! Well i would start by showing them the Griffith observatory of course! The views are immaculate and the vibe up there is so peaceful! ( not on the weekends tho) . The insane amount of food trucks filed with traditional Mexican cuisine are our next stop! Followed by beach time both in Venice and Malibu of course. All leading up to all the fun bars in West Hollywood for a true Hollywood experience !

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I don’t think i could ever credit the success of where i am in life to just one entity, i think everyone and everything that has crossed my path has shaped and contributed to my life and career choice in some way or another . And what i mean by “success of where i am in life” is , a place where i can follow my dreams and passions without shame and guilt while being supported by the people i love and or love the art form, this is success to me. So my shout out is to life ! For giving me so much while asking so little from me but just to enjoy it all , both the light ad the dark .
