We had the good fortune of connecting with Ferelith Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ferelith, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
I value honesty, integrity, kindness and hard work. The people in my artistic community are candid, vulnerable, and take risks. They are kind, compassionate, driven and they listen. They’re humble and generous and funny. And they take their work, but not themselves, too seriously. I strive everyday to be that kind of person so it’s what I value most in collaborators, friends, and partners. As Maya Angelou said: “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Being kind and making others feel seen and heard is of paramount importance to me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m an actress and writer. I started on stage, in New York and Toronto, before moving to film/ tv and the wonderful world of voice over. I just voiced the character of Eleni Syndulla in Star Wars: The Bad Batch on Disney+ which was so much fun, am in production on a short film that I co-wrote and have a children’s book that I’m developing. I got to where I am today with a lot of hard work, bravery and help! I’ve had incredible mentors, colleagues and friends support and guide me along the way. I’ve learned that it’s important to cultivate your own voice, make specific choices, set clear goals and be willing to fail. I want to make work I care about, with people I respect, and be joyful and open while doing it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ooo for a weekend, I would take them for a long walk in the Hollywood Hills then to Wax Paper for lunch. It’s a family owned sandwich shop in Frogtown where all the sandwiches are named after NPR hosts. The Ira Glass is my favourite, even although Terry Gross is my fave host of all time. I’d wander into the flower and homeward shops nearby then go to Pharmacie du Vin for an afternoon apéro. Some more vintage shopping after a spritz and then dinner at my friend’s restaurant All Time in Los Feliz where we’d eat their insane burrata tomato toast and sip delicious wine. Sunday we’d hit the Larchmont Farmers Market to get fresh fixings for dinner, maybe take a drive to the ocean or read a book and then cook dinner in my garden.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my parents, Mary and Peter, who raised me to be thoughtful, compassionate, and curious. They have given me this big ‘ol heart and encouraged me to share it with the world.
