We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Harrison and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is faith. For me, everything starts with faith. The belief that I can accomplish and live out my dreams of being a successful business owner through the power of faith. I have learned through my life journey that hard work and discipline produces perseverance, hope and success. But without faith how will I get to where I am going if I do not believe in something bigger than me? Being a black woman owned business, I have been faced with many challenges and adversities, however, my faith is my superpower to stay the course and prevail. The success of my brand is rooted in authenticity, genuineness, and simplicity. HoneyInk Publishing was created to inspire you to freely express yourself through the power of journaling.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is HoneyInk Publishing founded in 2020 during the height of the pandemic. I was working as a RN Stroke Coordinator and I was surrounded by loss of life, fear, and uncertainty. I was overwhelmed with working, homeschooling my kids, and family life until I turned back to my first love, journaling to deal with the chaos of life. I dealt with my anxiety through writing my story to heal my mind. Suddenly, the light bulb went off in my head. I needed this creative outlet and I always wanted to own a business. So, I married the two, creating journals and teaching others on the power of journaling to express their emotions and build their confidence. Nursing was my calling, but so is this. I have been a nurse for over 12 years and I plan to pour into my business as I have with the patients I have cared for over the years. HoneyInk Publishing continues to bring awareness on the importance of journaling and empower women to express themselves confidently.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I could take my friend to a few places, our first stop to eat would be C & O Cucina, best garlic knots ever! Who doesn’t love Italian food and Marina Del Rey? Cafe Gratitude and Gracias Madre although I am not a vegan the food is so freaky yummy and finally my dessert spot is Donut Friend. We would do the art tour downtown LA, visit the Getty Museum, stroll the streets near Leimert Park shops, see an amazing live concert at the Hollywood Bowl, and lastly visit Manhattan Beach.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my success to the prayers of my Mother, love, support, and encouragement from my Husband, Bonus Father, and sister Mika. I learned the importance of faith, affirmation and how to love myself from Newton “Papa” Carey and how to be financially savvy from Verby Johnson. Throughout my entire life, I honestly have been surrounded by supportive people from friends, Sorors of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc, classmates, and co-workers. My biggest shoutout goes to my biggest support system which are my handsome sons, they encourage and inspire me every day!
