We had the good fortune of connecting with Rick Hierro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rick, what matters most to you?
For me it’s three things: 1. Work hard, 2. Keep an open mind and 3. have fun.
I believe that when you are creating and having fun, it make the process more enjoyable.
Working hard will always keep you focused and get you closer to your goals. Keeping an open
mind will enable you to listen and learn from feedback, and also keeps your creativity going.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always felt like I was born to make a difference. The way my story began, made me feel like I was born for a purpose. I was born to a single teen mother, that along with her five sisters did their absolute best to raise me. I guess it’s why I’ve always felt like Life is a privilege, its a gift that we have to embrace and enjoy for as long as we are allowed too. So when I begin to produce a project, I want it to have a purpose and a goal. The Rick H. Show is the first project I created and has been one of my favorites to work on. The purpose of The Rick H. Show was to highlight creatives from different backgrounds and different industries. I wanted to create a space where creatives could share their stories to hopefully inspire someone who is listening. I also wanted to uplift and highlight my communion Uptown.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Im in New York, everywhere in NYC is a great. The food, the different cultures, the night life and the energy. Being from Washington Heights, I would for sure give them the tour of Uptown. a lot of great places to eat, hang out and drink. Some of the places are Angelica’s Uptown, Pop & Pour, The Monkey Room, The Bronx Public, Luxor, Suyo and The Bronx Brewery.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There isn’t one specific person, it’s more like a village of people. It’s starts at home with my Wife Jessica, my son Jonas, my Mom, my Siblings and my family cause they support me and give me the space to create. My teams for helping me make my vision a reality (Craze, Eli Jas, Justin, Benny, O, Mozo, Clarence and Uptown the community). My peers and fellow creators for inspiring me (Cesar “Ivanmanito” Castillo, Tommy “T5K” Peña, Rachel “La Loca” Strauss-Muniz, Jaime “JFernz” Fernandez, Frank Nibbs, Michael “Juan Bago” Diaz, John “Nueva Yol” Calzado, Mike “Da Mayor DP” Rincon and Andy “Radel” Ortiz). The Monkey Room for allowing us to produce the podcast from their location. Last but not least Our listeners for loving the show and pushing me to create more content.
