We had the good fortune of connecting with Bobby Booshay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bobby, what principle do you value most?
To me one of the biggest values that matters the most to me is being genuine. This goes for being genuine not only as a person but also genuine in the work you do. I feel people can tell when you’re not being genuine which to me it’s easy to see that just in the way they carry themselves. It tells you their true intentions without them having to verbalize it. Every interaction I have with someone I give them my true self as you always should. Each time I DJ I do the same thing. I love what I do and give my all for each performance. I want people that are there to feel the energy. To me that then creates an even better experience for them. They can feel and see that it’s authentic with real love and heart put into it. It all translates

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
For myself I’m a DJ. It goes without saying that I play other peoples art (music) which I’ll do it in different settings such as night clubs, weddings, concerts, festivals, and more! Each time I play out I try to create a memorable experience for not only myself but also for the people who are attending as well. Music brings us together in so many ways and is something that can heal us, console, and much more.

Over these last 10 years with Djing the love of music and the healing it has is what has kept me going. When I first started I played tons of empty rooms. No one there to cheer me on or give me that energy back. It was tough… I had many nights of wanting to give up after moments like that. Asking myself “is this really worth doing? Should I keep going?” If I don’t have the best night I’ll still have thoughts like that pop into my mind but I continue to remind myself where I was and how far I’ve come along with the love of the music still motivating me. I’m still not where I want to be but I know I’ve come very far. I’ll have friends who were at my first show tell me “isn’t it crazy how far you’ve come? From that little coffee shop to where you’re at now!” Which in those moments I think back like “wow they’re right! I really did all this stuff.”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Here in Cleveland there’s a lot of great food spots and hidden gems. For a friend that was coming into town I would take them to Irie which is an amazing Jamaican food spot. If I could have their plantains for the rest of my life I would. I’m also an avid coffee drinker so we would also stop at a place called Duck Rabbit. Drink wise one of my favorite spots is Cloak and Dagger. The aesthetic of the place is different than a lot of cocktail bars and the drinks are always on point. For a night out we would go to the few places such as FWD which is an all out door club on the water, inferno (another club), and Good Night John Boy which is a 70s theme club.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It might be cliche but I just want to shoutout my friends and the people I have closest to me in my life. They all have attributed to who I am and my success. Each of them give me a form of motivation. Whether they big me up, help me get new gigs, or are just there for me in general. There’s always something you can learn from everyone no how big or small it is. They’re the ones who will always put you in check, tell you how it is, and have your best interest in mind. Plus when I see them win that’ll motivate me as well to strive for more success and to prosper to the next level of where I can go
