We had the good fortune of connecting with Drake Murphy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Drake, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my business was simply looking for problems to solve. One of the most common problems that I found was “I want to be an artist/singer but I don’t know where to start.” So my way of providing the solution for this problem was writing out a foolproof plan that an 8-year-old could follow. An expert plan that is designed to take an aspiring artist from confusion to clarity, from a hobby to a profession, from absolutely nothing to having records distributed worldwide, in a matter of months. Also, collecting all of the money that is owed to them. Independently!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I would say the thing I am most excited, relieved, and proud of is, the fact that all of the struggles I have gone through and overcome have not been wasted. Every step of my journey has become an integral part of building my business. It was not easy building this out. It had to be done though. So I chose to step away from performing and even social media for a good spell so that I could focus on building out this plan. One of the most important and rewarding steps was humbling myself constantly and reaching out to my peers for them to criticize my plan. That way, it isn’t just me speaking from only my perspective but this plan encompasses life lessons and business practices from Grammy winners, multi-platinum songwriters, artists that have performed for thousands, and some of the top executives in the industry. I want the world to know I built this for the artists who refuse to be controlled by anyone, the artists who choose financial freedom over debt, and the artists who want to be fully developed to ensure maximum longevity in the music industry. We are building legends.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first stop would undoubtedly be Randy’s donuts! I mean, how many times have we seen that place in movies? The second place I would take them is the Runyon Canyon hike trail. Call me predictable but it is what it is. After that, we are going to Salsa&Beer #2 in North Hollywood. After having a great meal we will go to Rancho Palos Verdes to see that view! Not too many people know about that gem. Of course, Mulholland Drive is a must, too! For a late-night snack, we will head to Crave Cafe in Sherman Oaks, then get churros from that churro place a few doors down. (Can’t remember the name of it lol.) Most people would go to Santa Monica or Venice beach first but I am from North Carolina so we would want to hit the grill. That brings up Dockweiler beach! You can grill there. Everything else is just tourist traps and Instagram bait pretty much.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my wife for always believing in me and encouraging me to be the best that I can possibly be.
