Meet Camille Tenerife | Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Camille Tenerife and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Camille, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Some people believe that we (therapists) are paid to be helpful and are just here to listen to other people’s problems. Sometimes, others think that we don’t care about our clients. The reality is we care so much about our clients. We think about you after our sessions, seek consultations from others and pieces of training to see how else we can help.
We care just like a teacher is to her students or a coach to their athletes. Just because we are getting paid for our service, it does not mean we are not invested in your success and in you thriving in life.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’d love to! My career as a therapist has been a journey, and it’s still not over! I started volunteering with 5th graders, with kids with autism, then as a school counselor. All of these jobs influenced the way that I run my business today.
Today, I run a virtual mental health private practice based out of Los Angeles, CA. I see clients from all of California, which is fantastic! The practice specializes in working with professional BIPOC individuals and people healing from racial trauma. My brand is all about taking care of the BIPOC community’s well-being.
It was NOT easy to get to where I am today. I get a lot of strength and support from my family and friends. I would not have been able to get to where I am without them, and that’s for sure! I had a lot of perseverance, which included taking breaks from my goals, regaining my energy, and then going at it again.
I want to instill hope and let people know that they are not alone. My brand is built from a lot of determination, curiosity, and gratitude.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love this question! If I had my best friend visiting Los Angeles for a week, I would take them to various places.
I would take them hiking in Topanga Canyon, definitely head to the beaches of Malibu, and eat in yummy restaurants. So far, King and Queen Cantina in Santa Monica takes the cake. They have the best drinks and Birria tacos! I may head to some cool wineries/breweries. Arts District Brewing Company has some good drinks and games.
Another fantastic part of Los Angeles is going to museums and seeing art. There are so many – The Broad, LACMA, and The Getty.
Lastly, some shopping would be great from local farmer’s market like the Rose Bowl flea market or the Melrose Trading Post.
One of the reasons I love living in Los Angeles is for all the options this city brings!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes, absolutely! I have so many people who have supported me to get here. A few people who jump out are my colleague/friend, Lillian, and my boyfriend, Jake.
Lillian used to be my roommate, and she helped me through the challenges of this career, which, let me tell you, is highly challenging. She helped me breathe through it and celebrated the successes. To this day, she still does, and she truly influenced my success both professionally and personally.
My partner, Jake, also deserves another shout-out! He has been a rock throughout this process. The most significant shifts in my career were with Jake by my side. I am eternally grateful.
