Meet Dazhou Jin | Music Producer & Composer. Music Director of Film & TV

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dazhou Jin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dazhou Jin, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I always disliked dealing with boundaries. I love being different. Being a maverick. To showcase my unique creativity and approach to life. Growing up, I was a loner. I wasn’t interested in most of the things my peers liked. My passion was always in music. I got into rock music in junior high, picking up the electric guitar and joining bands. Living with music is an indescribable feeling. I was driven to succeed, I was fulfilled. Music gave me the perfect medium to express myself.
Entering college, I did not major in music at first, but I continued to live in it. I began working on my songwriting and arranging skills, which led to a record label deal. I was writing for a large number of artistes, giving me work validation and financial success. It was a natural progression from that to my current role in as composer, music producer, and music director.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I work as lead producer, composer and music director for film and TV shows. Together with my team D-Jin Music, we specialize in music production for a wide range of media production teams and artists across multiple genres.
I feel the most important thing is to do what you love. The music universe is vast – I am passionate and hungry to master every aspect of music as much as possible. It gives me an infinite drive to get better. Every situation is just another obstacle to beat, another hill to climb. Every day. It’s a never-ending process to better myself. This may not be how most people live their lives. I am grateful for the opportunity to be in this position. It’s truly a blessing to be a musician.
Professionally I am still so far away from my goals. I am proud of my current achievements. However I believe I am capable of so much more. It’s not always easy. In every stage of my career I face different challenges. It’s a constant battle of choice, of decision-making, and of balance. This journey is full of ups and downs. I’m glad I did it though. I’ve learnt a lot along the way. Most importantly, I’ve learnt to “give and let go”. It’s something I still remind myself of all the time.
As for D-Jin Music, the music production house I founded, that’s my life and career right now. To me it’s not about proving anything to the world – it was never about that. I do hope my music, songs, compositions, as well as the TV and film scores I produce reaches as many people as possible. I hope the audience hears our team’s work. I hope they hear our dedication and our attitude towards our craft. And I hope you like it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Guitar Center on Sunset Blvd (Hollywood). So that’s where we’d start. Also Vintage King in Burbank. Then we’d hit a bunch of amazing restaurants – Beijing Restaurant, Shancheng Lameizi, and Xiaolongkan. So much to do in LA, all the beaches, theme parks, concerts, our major sports teams – Lakers, Clippers, Rams, Chargers, Dodgers, Kings etc. Take your pick, we’re gonna have fun.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife is everything in my life. She’s my rock and pillar, and the heart and soul of my family. I also want to thank my two sons (age 4 and 1). They give me hope, warmth, and motivation to do what I do. I also owe them an apology – most of my time is soaked in work; I am often not by their side. It’s an adjustment I’m making. Moving forward, I hope to spend a lot more time with my family.
I’d also like to thank the entire D-Jin Music team. One person is never enough. Our team came together because of our shared purpose and vision, combining our strengths for a common goal. We have a dynamic team – everyone has so much room to grow. Special thanks to my long-time music coordinator, composer and music arranging friend – Yuhong Ng. We met in Musicians Institute in LA a decade ago, I was from Beijing and him from Singapore. We’ve worked alongside each other since. He’s always helped and supported me in my music career. My work has changed his life too, turning him from a session/concert keyboardist into a music producer. I hope the whole team grows together in D-Jin Music as we face the future.
