We had the good fortune of connecting with Sher Arar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sher, what matters most to you?
Consistency. When someone is consistent that person is reliable, trustworthy, and smooth to work with. So many people overpromise and underdeliver, however, someone who is consistent will live up to their promises. A consistent person will succeed at any task.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I began acting as a way to release built up energy and fell in love with it immediately. As an actor who wears hijab, the biggest struggle I face is having others see me more than the stereotype and “type cast” they perceive me as. My goal is to be able to play roles that normalize my perceived type to the outside world. There are many facets of life that keep humans in separation; for example: politics, religion and moral beliefs, but art consistently works to keep us connected. I truly believe that acting especially has the power to unite humanity by shedding our identity and allowing us to see each other in pure human form. I was always able to see the world past the scope of my culture and religion from a very young age and hope to continue to show that through the art of acting. With that said, the key to connectedness is to uphold ones beliefs but also be able to coexist with others who may have entirely opposite beliefs, and I truly believe if done correctly acting has the power to do so.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
An amazing place for lunch is Fresh Corn Grill on Santa Monica Blvd. For dinner, I would recommend Elephante, Spago, or The Henry. Then for desert either Go Greek or Insomnia Cookies. During the day, I would recommend biking around Lake Hollywood Park, climbing at the Hollywood Boulders gym, or relaxing on Carbon Beach in Malibu away from the craziness of the city. The nightlife in LA is always exciting. A few places I enjoy is Pendry West Hollywood, Poppy, The Abbey, and Doheny Room.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my commercial agent, Adam Alamirhasan, from Bounty LA. When I first got into commercial acting I was free-soloing it. Adam approached me about representation and my career took off after that. Through his guidance I was able to work from a value-driven mindset and understood the industry in an entirely different light. Sometimes all it takes is for someone to see your vision, potential and work with you to achieve it. Adam was that person for me.
