We had the good fortune of connecting with Richard Deere and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Richard, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I ever made, was moving to LA. Before I took that step, most people I knew doubted me. They said LA was too big of a dream, that not many people can make it out here. I was scared because I didn’t really know anyone here, so I knew it would be a big risk. But if you want to succeed anywhere doing whatever you are doing, sooner or later you will have to take risks. So I packed my things and said my goodbyes; if anything went wrong, I knew I could come back.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When I first came to LA I had plans to open my own agency with State Farm. I was working for an office in Atlanta for about two years and I was good at it. I was an influencer then, so knowing people and connecting to people online was easy; so that made my job less difficult. Working in sales all you need is to have good influence. When I arrived to LA, a city I knew nothing about or no one, the land of famous people and influencers; I knew it wouldn’t be so easy to start an insurance office from ground zero. So, I put that dream aside and started meeting people. I got a job at The Abbey as a bartender and was meeting so many people. I knew I wanted to make big money, and take advantage of the things I already had. For many years before coming to America I used to travel the world. I got a lot of followers on instagram from all those trips and posts. I decided to use that as my advantage here in LA. I got into fitness and started partnering with big brands, such as C4 Energy Drinks. I started creating more content related to that area and now I am growing my following more with that demographics.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
After being in LA for a little bit over 3 years, I get a lot of friends wanting to visit; So, I often find myself being the tour guide. When I first came to visit LA in 2016 I fell in love with this city, now to be able to show it to my friends is such a pleasure. The first stop would be the Hollywood sign. Most people don’t know this, but you can actually park all the way up there, and hike just a little trail and you’ll be right in front of it, for the best photos. If you go up there, you should also take the back trail and go all the way behind the sign; the view from up there is amazing, you can see the whole town. Being brazilian you might find this a little bit cliche but I would take them to have lunch at a brazilian restaurant called Bossa Nova on Sunset Blvd. I almost have this whole itinerary, where we would check out Venice Beach, hike Runyon Canyon in West Hollywood, go to the walk of fame and look the stars of our idols, go watch the sunset in Malibu… There is so much to do in Los Angeles, I could keep on writing a whole essay about it. Whatever you want to do or feel like doing, no matter the day of the week, you will find in LA. You cant get bored here if you don’t want to.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To the amazing people who have crossed my life and changed it for better. To them I dedicate becoming the man I am today. Monica Bifano, Frank Abraham, Francesco Paolo, Jordan Bishop.
