We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Webb Brundige and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?

Balance is something we talk about ALL the time, both in my family home and at the office. Prior to COVID, there was little balance in my life; I would work all the time and put off essentials, like sleep. But after making it through the pandemic, and adopting our 2nd son, balance has become key to survival, and being good at everything: wife, mom, business owner, etc. If I set boundaries and create a balanced life, I can do more on a day to day basis than most. Balance is a lot about defining your boundaries: what do you need to do in a day that’s good for you, for your family and for your job. If I’m not taking care of myself, I can’t do anything else right either. I actually set time on my calendar to work out, I stick to “working hours” to schedule calls and I make sure to set aside 1:1 time for my kids and husband. It’s ok to do things outside of work…that was a hard lesson for me to learn and implement!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

I specifically remember when Meghan and I were about to leave our corporate America jobs and work full time on Intertwined Events. My boyfriend at the time and his family asked why I would ever do such a thing. I was making $45K a year on salary, had great benefits and worked from home…why would I leave that? I soon left him and that job. I’m so grateful to have been born into a family with a strong worth ethic and a motivation inside me that always wants more. Once I accomplish a goal, I’m already on my way to the next. It’s not been easy…we started in a recession. We’ve made it through COVID (as an event company – one of the worst industries to be during a time where events were forbidden!). We have dealt with family crisis, low bank accounts, not enough staffing, and every single time we struggled, it made us better. If nothing else, we know that when times get hard, we can hunker down, re-strategize, build momentum and push forward. It’s when you get stagnant or throw your hands up and say it’s too hard that bad things happen…those are the moments you have to push through. You will get to the other side.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Our family lives in Old Towne Orange near Chapman University and we absolutely love it here. We love walking everywhere and in Old Towne, you can absolutely do that! On the weekends, we love walking to town, grabbing a coffee at Urth Cafe or Peets, then heading to the Farmers Market. They have the BEST homemade ravioli, sauces, breads and veggies. On our way home, if it’s not an event day, we are likely to stop in at our favorite place, Haven. Whether it’s a delicious IPA or a glass of wine, they allow us to spend our weekends on their patio with good food, friendly service and drinks! I’m honestly a homebody and would stay in our little circle all weekend!! The people watching can’t be beat….there is even a couple that walks their pet goose every day, “Goosie”.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

There are so many people who have supported me along the way to get where I am today, but you can’t talk about Intertwined Events without talking about my other half, Meghan. She is the co-director of RAD Camp with me, my business partner at Intertwined Events and Become Intertwined, the best 2nd on any event, godmother to one of my kids, and best friend. She’s right there next to me on all our big business opportunities. I have the BEST friends and family (extra shout to Colleen, Kristin, + of course my amazing husband Tim)…I seriously got SO lucky in the friend and family department of life!
