We had the good fortune of connecting with Garry Clare and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Garry, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Right before Covid hit, I was laid off from a job I worked in for 11 years. I thought I would have my fashion brand to lean on, but when everything shut down, so did my income. Around the same time I also decided to follow one of my other passions and become a barber, but right after I enrolled in school, that shut down too. It was a really rough place to be in, but like many people, I’m standing strong and building everything back little by little. I persevered and was able to finally get my barbers license and things are picking back up with my brand.
Nothing has ever been handed to me in life. I’ve had to work hard for everything I’ve achieved and still do but that’s what has helped me to remain grateful, determined, and focused.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

I’m creative at heart. I love using my innate talents and abilities to create things with my own two hands. Although I was born and raised in Los Angeles, I’m not about the glitz and glam. I’m very down-to-earth and enjoy connecting with people on a personal level.
Growing up, I was intrigued by the culture of fashion and barbering.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d hit up Randy’s Donuts and some Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles for some lunch. Then we’d drive down Venice Beach, rent some bikes and take a ride up to Santa Monica pier. After that, we’d grab dinner and drinks at BJ’s and order a pizookie to end the evening.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
