We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean Reusch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sean, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I feel so fortunate to be a parent to 2 amazing kids. My wife and I encourage our children to be kind, to appreciate all they have, to do their best, to be critical thinkers, to be thoughtful, to find their passion, to love learning and to focus on the process of learning, and to be creative. We also share with our kids that one’s attitude is a filter for life, it’s very important to focus on one’s body, mind and spirit every day, and to always stay connected with nature. I believe all of these things have had a tremendous positive impact on our children.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love to teach and perform. Because I have had so many playing challenges to work through and overcome, I think I am an effective and empathetic teacher. I also have been so fortunate to study with many incredible teachers. I am most proud of my students and what they all have gone on to do. My teaching philosophy is simple – I love to inspire and motivate my students to be kind, hard-working, curious artists, and expressive musicians. I believe learning is a life-long process, that everyone learns differently, and that everyone is unique and has a special gift. I love to give my students tools that allow them to become fantastic musicians and successful in life.
Becoming a professional took a lot of hard work and patience. It was definitely not easy for me! I failed a great deal and persevered, and I did my best to learn from my mistakes. Over the years, I l have earned so many amazing life lessons through performing and teaching. I hope that everyone finds something that they are passionate about in life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend visited me in San Diego, I would take them for some delicious Mexican food and then straight to the beach. We are so fortunate to have such amazing weather year round and gorgeous beaches. I would also take them to see one of the Spanish Missions, an amazing piece of California history. There are many wonderful restaurants and breweries in San Diego that we would visit. Finally, no visit to San Diego is complete without going to the San Diego Zoo,
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Thank you to my amazing family for their constant love and support. Thanks to all my incredible teachers and colleagues. I am very thankful to be a Shires Artist.
