We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean David Christensen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sean, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I choose to see success through the lens of collaborative harmony, particularly with my career as an artist & producer. Any claim I can make to my “success,” is owed to the trust given to me by the remarkable individuals I’ve had the honor of collaborating with over the years. By emerging together from the creative process with a bold statement, be it a film, song or show, if I’m able to amplify the unique strengths of all those involved while creating something singular and memorable – we’ve accomplished something truly special. You can’t do that on your own.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am most proud of continuing to work with and support those who have inspired and sustained my spirit living in Los Angeles. On the theme of “harmony” that I mentioned earlier: To be able to work alongside others who help elevate you and awaken your best work, I’m proud that I aim to do the same.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Vidiots in Eagle Rock! It’s a film lover’s paradise and a sanctuary for human interaction through film. Equal parts library (chock full of rare or out-of-print DVDs & VHS tapes), cinema and cafe…for someone like me who grew up in video stores, it’s a second home. Founded by women and helmed by my dear friend Maggie Mackay (hi Maggie!), Vidiots is a gift to LA.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m lucky to be songwriting partners with my best friend, Mark Christopher. With our band Maggie Dave, we nurture each other’s creative input. Mark has a unique ability to “stress test” every element of a song to ensure the groove & message are as strong as they can be. His focus, from the arrangement to the sound of a cymbal, is so sharp. It’s a real special gift. I’m grateful to have a partner who inspires the energy I bring to the studio, someone who can see the bigger picture whenever I get too stressed out to enjoy the process, which is often. Lately, he reminded me of how lucky we are to make music as friends. I couldn’t agree more.
