We had the good fortune of connecting with Grace Uchendu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Grace, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Growing up, I wasn’t the best at balancing things in my life. I always prioritized having fun over dealing with important issues. This was due to finding outlets of alleviating work overload stress. At the sight of any stress, I was always the person to peddle away and avoid it at all costs. Slowly but surely, this toxic trait began to grow into a monster that I no longer could control. When I reached the breaking point, I sat down to reassess my life and looked for what caused a lot of detrimental set-backs. Everything led back to balance. Once I listed out important goals that I wanted to accomplish, I had to re-strategize a lot and focus on balancing my life and completing tasks that would essentially help promote me. After some time, I started to notice a positive increase in my life that soon turned into success.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
For Graced Beauty, I am most proud about being selected twice to be interviewed for this magazine. This goes to show that no matter where you are in life, when it is your turn, it is YOUR turn. I never try to compete with other businesses, but always look to reflect on my own brand. I look for my niche and capitalize on that. Eventually, someone, somewhere will notice you and announce you even more.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First, I enjoy AMAZING food! With that being said I’d go to RPM Italian, Fiola Mare (both located in DC) or Thai in Laurel, MD. RPM Italian has the BEST pasta in DC and Thai in Laurel has the BEST Thai basil fried rice! Next, as an art advocate I would go to ARTECHOUSE or Hirshhorn (both located in DC). I love their exhibits which are a mix of technology, design and art. Lastly, I would recommend the boardwalk at National Harbor (located in Oxon Hill, MD). It’s very scenic and beautiful right at sunset. I love to go on the Ferris wheel to tower over the water and to catch a glimpse of the skyline.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Without Him, I wouldn’t be here and would not have gotten this far in life. Having faith in Him is what has set me apart and is what has promoted me to where I am today. This next shoutout goes to my parents! They have done a phenomenal job raising me and without their support and approval, I wouldn’t be the woman that I am today. Next are my pastors Dr. George Agbonson & Pastor Wendy Agbonson at Christ Restoration Ministries. They have been longtime mentors and supporters in my life. I’m grateful for their words of wisdom, prayers, and guidance. Lastly are my friends! Their unlimited support and motivation are unmatched. I call them my personal cheerleaders and will be forever grateful to have them in my life.
