We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanaye Tucker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shanaye, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
My favorite quote is “Vincit qui se vincit”, which means “ he conquers who conquers himself”. Even though I attended an all Girls high school, this was our school motto and it has stuck with me ever since. I believed it so much I got it tattooed on my arm a few years after graduation. I am not really a risk taker but I do believe if you can overcome your own fears, you can overcome anything. So, whenever I am afraid to start something new or take a risk this qoute always come to mind, and I push myself to the next level.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

I am the owner of a candle business named The Candle Closet that I launched in 2020 during the pandemic, and it has been growing ever since. All of my candles are hand poured with all natural soy wax and infused with natural fragrances and essential oils. Growing up my home has always been filled with good smelling candles so I have always been a candle lover. Over the years I grew such an obsession with candles that I decided to stop buying candles from other companies, and start creating them for myself. This process was not easy at all! Through a lot of time, research, and trail and error I have learned how to curate the perfect candle.

Starting a business is hard work but maintaining it is even harder. This summer I decided to take a risk and become a full time entrepreneur and I couldn’t be happier. I love working for myself, and doing things on my own terms. Of course,  I have my days but I know God doesn’t give me anything that I can’t handle and I sit back trust the process he has planned for me. Candle making has become therapeutic for me, and it brings me so much joy when people share with me how amazing they smell, and what a great addition it is to their space.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Whenever friends come to visit its a must we do brunch (it’s my favorite). There are plenty of great places to try but I would suggest the wine garden as a great place to visit because it has a large menu, unlimited drinks and good music. Of course it’s always great to see the famous Philly landmarks such as the LOVE statue, and run “ Rocky Steps” at the art museum. I’m a huge Philly sports fan so going to a game and tailgating would be a fun way to spend the day. Of course you can’t come to Philly without getting a Philly cheesesteak! My favorite place is called Iskabibbles on South St. It’s always nice to end the nice by the waterfront at Spruce St. Harbor Park sitting by the water enjoying ice cream!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There would be no Candle Closet without the support of my family and friends. My family has been supporting me since I first presented this idea to them in 2019. They love to brag about my candles, and they never miss a restock! Now my friends are my promo team! They have been showing up for me since day 1! Whenever I have a wild idea, need an extra hand, or need some encouragement I know they will always be there for me. Most of the content on my page could not have taken place without them, so shoutout to my girls! I am beyond grateful for my support system and I appreciate them more than words can explain.
