We had the good fortune of connecting with Olga & Ketan & Tanya Based on a Story and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Olga & Ketan & Tanya, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Uniting communities and connecting people who share similar values and beliefs. With our Based on a Story series of Pop Ups, we want to bring the brands closer to their customers, share their unique brand stories, but also unite all these special and talented people that are showcasing their commitment and hard work. We wanted to involve the community by stepping outside of just selling brands, but experiences as well. For our first pop up on Fairfax in LA we had a floral arrangements class, wine tasting, music night, ceramics night, and photography night each of which highlighted talent within the LA community and gave our customers a place where they could go to meet like minded people.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Based on a Story was created as a result of three different creatives and entrepreneurs gathering around the idea of creating a community of likeminded fashion talents. Our journey is actually greatly inspired by our own experiences and struggles and dreams. Each of us has its own talent and it is great to see how three absolutely different approaches to work can come together. Main lesson that we learned – communication is the key, it is important to listen and be heard between each other. Differences are actually making us stronger giving us this extra power to overcome challenges that we find on the way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Olga: Oh my, I am actually new to the city. as I have just moved here from Amsterdam. I have spent most of my LA time in WeHo so I would claim it to be my fav part of LA so far. It offers variety of nice restaurants and bars, plenty of green spots and amazing hiking in Ranyon. Tanya: Tanya: If my best friend was visiting LA I’d follow the below itinerary
Monday: Hiking and surfer watching in Malibu then lunch at John’s Garden in Malibu Country Mart
Tuesday: Afternoon at Olympic Korean Spa, dinner at Quarters Korean BBQ
Wednesday: Day at The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens and drinks and small bites at Lolo Wine Bar
Thursday: Visit Hauser & Wirth Art Gallery and have lunch at Manuela. Walk around Downtown Arts District, visit ARTBOOK, grab a coffee at Cafe Gratitude, visit Dover Street Market, dinner at Bestia
Friday: Wake up and take a Pilates class at P.Evolve on the rooftop, walk around Venice, down Abbot Kinney Blvd and stop at LCD for some shopping, visit the skate park and have dinner at Dudley Market
Saturday: Early morning hike at Griffith, coffee/breakfast at Tartine, then walk around and check out Jeffrey Deitch Gallery, The Hole art gallery. Walk around Fairfax Ave, sit outside at the cafe at Brain Dead Studios for a refreshment, then grab lunch or dinner at Badmaash

*There’s too much to do in LA for just one week!! 🙂

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
