We had the good fortune of connecting with Bree Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bree, why did you pursue a creative career?
Growing up I had a vivid imagination and a knack for being creative. I was always into the arts, I took acting classes, I was a dancer and I loved writing stories. As I grew older I knew that sitting behind a desk crunching numbers or doing something monotonous wasn’t for me. I needed a career that was ever changing and allowed me to express myself and bring my ideas to the table.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Starting as an esthetician student I was fortunate to find the opportunity to work under an established esthetician. While putting myself through esthetician school I was also in college finishing up courses to apply to graduate school to become a cosmetic scientist. As I grew my client base as well as my online presence my love of science, helping people, and educating people about skin continued to grow. As you can imagine working, and being enrolled in two schools was not easy, but I knew the end reward would be worth it. As I worked my way up to becoming the lead esthetician at a top medspa in the DC metro area, I fostered my love of science by pursuing my masters in cosmetic science at Rutgers University. This led me to create the platform now known as D.Y.E.S or Do you even Skincare? An education platform for aesthetic professionals to learn more about the ingredients behind skincare labels and treatments, what is going on in the skin at a cellular level and how to use this knowledge to become a better practitioner. Today I personally mentor estheticians all over the globe and am gearing up for the launch of my new education courses and e-books. My brand “Do you even Skincare?” aims to bridge the gap between treatment rooms and skincare labs so that aesthetic professionals can confidently educate and support their clients while transforming their skin.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a huge fan of comedy and I love to laugh so when I’m in LA I always visit The Laugh Factory. I am also an avid rollerskater so I always feel right at home at Venice Beach.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my Mom, Jay Brown who always encouraged and supported me. Ella Williams who mentored me and helped guide me down the path to becoming a lead Esthetician.
Reanne Kelly, a peer that I look up to and am so grateful for. She has always spoken my name in rooms where I was not there to help me propel my career and obtain various opportunities.
