We had the good fortune of connecting with Nia Black and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’d always been interested in becoming a florist, but I never really considered it as a serious career option until recently. After working in a corporate job for many years. I realized that I missed being creative and working with my hands. I also didn’t want to be tied down to one location, so the thought of owning my own business was appealing. Floristry seemed like the perfect way to combine my love of art with my desire for independence, so I decided to take the plunge and start my own floral design business. It’s been a lot of work, but it’s also been incredibly rewarding. I’m grateful every day that I made the decision to follow my dreams.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I always loved playing with flowers, I started my own small business and never looked back. I’m proud to say that my business has been thriving for over 5 years now.
Of course, it hasn’t always been easy. In the early days, I had to work long hours and make a lot of sacrifices. But it was all worth it in the end. Through hard work and determination, I built my business up from nothing into the successful brand it is today.
Along the way, I’ve learned some valuable lessons about running a business. First and foremost, it’s important to always be passionate about what you do. When you love what you do, it shows in your work – and that’s what really sets you apart from the competition. It’s also important to be adaptable and willing to change as the needs of your business evolve. And finally, never give up – even when things are tough. Just remember that challenges are only temporary and eventually you will overcome them if you stay focused and keep moving forward.
So that’s my story. I hope it inspires you to chase your dreams and turn them into reality – just like I did.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting Los Angeles, I would want to show them all the best that the city has to offer. We would start by exploring some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, like the Hollywood Sign and Universal Studios. Then we would check out some of the city’s best museums, like the Getty Center and the La Brea Tar Pits. After that, we would enjoy some of the city’s great food and drink, from sushi in Little Tokyo to cocktails on Sunset Boulevard. And of course, we would spend some time just relaxing on one of LA’s many perfect beaches. In short, I would want my friend to have an unforgettable experience exploring everything that makes Los Angeles such a special place.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I always loved flowers, but I never guessed that I would end up becoming a floral designer. It was only after taking a class in college and discovering my natural talent for arranging flowers that I decided to pursue it as a career. However, becoming a successful floral designer required more than just talent. I also had to put in long hours of practice, and it was only thanks to the support and encouragement of my family and friends that I was able to persevere. That would included my husband who is always helping with setup and deliveries, my girls and definitely my mother and father. Every time I create a beautiful arrangement, I feel like I’m honoring their faith in me. So this shoutout goes to all the people who have supported me on my journey to becoming a floral designer. Thank you for believing in me!
