We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Gammill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsay, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I got the opportunity to manage Boomtown Tees at the perfect time in my life. I have a Bachelors Degree in Marketing and after a year of working in the field, aka tiny cubicle, I realized I hated it — just absolutely wasn’t for me. Being so hands on while learning to run a business, and screen print on top of that, has been an experience that’s changed my life. Whether I’m creating new designs that our customers will love or printing it on a t-shirt, the whole experience has given me the creative outlet that I desperately needed and I can’t imagine being at a desk job again.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love Tulsa, I was born and raised here. Getting to work with the people of Tulsa in the unique way we do is always exciting. Boomtown Tees is, in it’s front-facing business, a souvenir shop! Tulsa and Oklahoma has a long history and we love to celebrate it with fun, quirky t-shirts, mugs, hats, and really anything else you’d imagine is in a souvenir shop. I think this is the easy part of the business, mostly because for me, customer service comes easy. I thoroughly enjoy helping out a fellow Tulsan or tourist! I love to hear people’s ideas for t-shirt designs and being able to create those.
The “harder” part of the business is our custom screen printing side. For me, still just as enjoyable (maybe even more so!). It can be tricky to help design the perfect t-shirt or find the perfect ink color for clients but the satisfaction we get from seeing their faces light up when they see the final product makes it more than worth it. There’s always been something special about taking an idea and putting it into a tangible form for me. Being able to finally hold your idea after the whole process is something not everyone can appreciate at their job.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a fantastic questions because I get to brag on Tulsa for a second! Our first stop would be Andolini’s Pizzeria. This is one of my favorite spots in Tulsa, I love them so much they catered my wedding! Their pizza is incredible, everyone who works there is fantastic, and it’s such a solid Tulsa location!
Our next stop would be Saturn Room in downtown Tulsa. Tiki torches galore, it’s my favorite spot for a drink in Tulsa. Oh, you haven’t had a Chi Chi from Saturn Room? You need to fix that immediately! Rum and macadamia mixed into a refreshing frozen cocktail… I’m at a loss for words.
So many options to take someone to! The Gathering Place, The Center of the Universe, we could see a play at the Tulsa PAC or look at art at The Philbrook Museum. Tulsa is growing everyday and there’s always something new to do!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Michelle and Tony Cozzaglio are the owners of Boomtown Tees and the reason I’m able to do what I love. They reached out to me before they even owned Boomtown, in the very beginning stages. To know that they trusted me enough to not just run their business, but make it my own in a way, means the world to me. They give me so many opportunities to put my ideas out into the world and that gives me the confidence to show up and give my all.
