Meet Quavondo Nguyen | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Quavondo Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Quavondo, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Life has a funny way of throwing us curveballs and testing our limits, and it’s totally normal to have doubts in those moments. Do we keep going or should we give up? The answer is never simple, but I think that if we’re resilient and recognize our true potential, we can adapt and modify plans. We need to stay open-minded and adaptable. Sometimes, life nudges us toward a greater purpose or reveals a new path that aligns better with our passions, or reveals to us passions that we didn’t know existed. Before I was a photographer, I worked as a graphic designer, and by happenstance, a photoshoot opportunity fell into my lap and lead me down a different trajectory in life. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would make a living taking photos. Now, I’m at another pivot in life after discovering that I love writing film scripts. Sometimes you don’t have to completely shut the door, you can compartmentalize and have many doors leading to different rooms. So when you’re faced with the choice of whether to keep going or give up, remember the untapped potential within you. but don’t take failure as a sign that you should give up. Treat it as a stepping stone for growth and learning, and trust that inner voice of ours—the one that speaks to our dreams and aspirations, and you’ll know which way to go. Nurture your dreams with unwavering belief and determination. Be ready to adapt when needed, knowing that detours can lead to even greater destinations. And don’t forget, the journey itself is valuable, not just the final destination.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
There were many challenges, as with anything new. When photography came into my life, I became obsessed, so I spent every waking hour absorbing information through books, manuals, YouTube. I made sure that I shot every single day, experimenting with different lighting scenarios. Most of my growth was through trial and error. So don’t be afraid to wing it. You can’t grow without failing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Joni Kabana. Thank you for letting me tag along on your photoshoots when I first started my career. Your openness meant the world to me. I still appreciate you.
