Meet Jill Pineda | Actor, Model & Digital Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jill Pineda and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jill, how do you think about risk?
Growing up, I often found myself uncertain about taking on new ventures. Whenever this happened, my father was my go-to for advice. He consistently asked me, “what’s the worst thing that can happen?” The answers to this question, devoid of fear but brimming with courage and self-empowerment, clarified my outlook on tackling new challenges. His influence significantly shaped my approach towards risk-taking and exploring novel paths in life.
On the other hand, my mother instilled in me the importance of faith. Had I not mustered the courage to relocate to the US, the life I lead now would have been impossible to achieve. Both my parents’ teachings have instilled in me a champion’s mindset and the boldness to chase my dreams. I’m deeply grateful for their profound influence on my life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I began my creative journey as a dancer and choreographer/dance teacher. Competing for limited job opportunities in Los Angeles against thousands of excellent dancers was a tough task. However, a suggestion to try commercial acting due to my “look” changed my path. I juggled my day job, acting classes, and daily dance training. My evenings and weekends were devoted to honing my skills, leaving little time for social life. It was a rigorous routine, but the love for my craft made it worthwhile. This period of intense focus prepared me for the demands of life on set and the realities of being an artist.
Getting a leading role in a major campaign took time. Despite several unsuccessful auditions, I remained persistent. After years of perseverance, I landed a commercial role in a significant public service announcement campaign without an audition, which required performing in Tagalog (Filipino), my first language. I believe that my multicultural background, fluency in English and Tagalog, and authentic portrayal of my experiences differentiate me in the industry.
One crucial lesson I’ve learned is never to reject yourself. We often hold ourselves back due to self-doubt, self-esteem issues, and insecurities. This industry will present plenty of rejections; there’s no need for us to add to them. Being our own biggest advocate is a must, not only in our careers but also in our health, mental well-being, and personal dreams and aspirations.
The pandemic underscored the importance of embracing and representing our unique identities. Regardless of our background, we need to honor our individuality. Positive changes are occurring in the industry with more diverse casting, but we need to seize these opportunities ourselves. We must give ourselves a chance.
I used to limit myself to one pursuit and suppressed my creative instincts for a long time trying to “fit in” and choosing a practical career in Finance. However, as I grew older, I realized I was battling myself. I was continually drawn back to my creative side. Eventually, I realized I needed to stop limiting myself, to fully express who I am and reach my potential. I’ve always loved dance and fashion, entertaining, and creating. I decided to let go of my self-imposed restrictions and flow with my creative instincts.
“Never reject yourself”, “take the leap” and “don’t water yourself down for anyone” have become my life mantras. I moved to the US with just two suitcases, some photo albums, my school yearbooks, and a dream. Now, as a homeowner in Los Angeles, a wife, a mother, and a working artist, I am genuinely living my dream life. I’m grateful for my journey so far and excited for what’s yet to come!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For someone visiting Los Angeles for the first time, I’d recommend they try the cheeseburger meal with animal style fries from In-N-Out Burger. I’d also include a visit to the Huntington Library & Botanical Gardens in San Marino on the itinerary – it’s one of my all-time favorite places. I’d also suggest a visit to Urth Caffe for a Spanish Latte, a must-try for any coffee enthusiast. All these spots are quintessentially LA!
If my friend has specific cravings, we have plenty of options. For Chinese cuisine, Din Tai Fung is a top choice. Max’s Fried Chicken is the place to go for Filipino food, while Thirsty Cow offers fantastic Korean dishes. For Thai food, Sanam Luang is a must-visit. To get a wide taste of LA, I’d recommend a trip to the Rose Bowl Flea Market and the 626 Night Market.
No LA visit is complete without a beach day. We could also grab some burgers from Shake Shack, take them to go, and have a beach picnic. My top beach picks are Malibu, Manhattan Beach, and Santa Monica Pier.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to express the most resounding appreciation for my parents. Their unwavering support and love have been instrumental in my journey, and for that, I’m profoundly grateful. From the time I first showed an interest in dance, arts, gymnastics- whatever it is, they’ve provided encouragement and the necessary resources for my success. In times of self-doubt or anxiety, they’ve reminded me to enjoy the process and do my best. This simple philosophy has become a valuable tool for managing stress and anxiety inducing situations in my life. I’ve incorporated the same approach in raising my own children, resulting in their own happiness and high achievement. I proudly identify as a Dolphin mom, not a Tiger mom.
My children deserve a shout out for being my greatest source of inspiration and motivation to be a better person. I want to thank my husband, my best friend and confidant, for his unwavering support and companionship. Appreciation is also due to my brother and sister (also my best friend), along with their wonderful families, who’ve been my enthusiastic cheerleaders throughout my journey. And to my in-laws, thank you for your constant support. I love you all!
