We had the good fortune of connecting with Bobbo Byrnes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bobbo, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I struggle with this. I’ve designed my life that if I’m not touring and playing shows then I’m home in the studio recording myself and others and if I’m not doing that I’m tuning pianos and it’s worked it’s way into thinking that if I’m not doing one of these jobs then I’m wasting time. My wife Tracy has been very influential in getting me to think of time off and setting hours because I will just keep going morning to night. She will say, ok, you need a break now.

I don’t know if it’s a specific east coast mentality of “if you’re not working, you’re wasting time.” I was touring back east and staying with my Mom and the last night I was there went out to dinner with some friends of hers and a woman in her 70’s asked me:

“Did you have a nice vacation with your mother?”

“I did but I was also working while I’m here.”

“Ha, working. Is that what you call it?”

“Well, I had 18 shows in a little over three weeks.”

“Yeah, but that’s not working.”

The east coast will never let you forget that you’re not working hard enough.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
You know, I’m a dude with a guitar. Sometimes with a band and sometimes solo. There’s a million of us out there. I have my songs, my perspective and my experience, sharing those things and connecting to my audience is all I have.

To ask if it’s been easy is a loaded question because I do understand certain privileges that I have grown up with. What you do once you get the opportunities is on you though. I try to help others through the same doors. I’m not a super star by any stretch but I’ve always tried to lift up and share anything I’ve learned or info whenever I can.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’d probably start off in my studio, Wandering Star Studios here in Anaheim. We’d make some music, write some new stuff and have a good sing and a strum. From there we’d walk to downtown and get some Mexican food or sushi. This is starting to sound like “what would you do on our first date” isn’t it?

If it was a Tuesday night I’d take them to Canter’s Deli in LA to see the F.O.C.K.R.’s – only the best house band on the planet.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Tracy Byrnes deserves all my credit. Having someone that believes in you and loves you, especially when you don’t believe in yourself and don’t particularly like yourself is everything in this world.
