Meet Norka Vasquez | Model/actress

We had the good fortune of connecting with Norka Vasquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Norka, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I ever had to make was leaving a steady income, a 9-5 to venture into the modeling/acting industry.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It was not easy to accomplish so many things in such short little time. My most proud moment was advocating along with my mom for women health screenings specially for breast cancer. We both spoke and appeared on a commercial and we did it to help those that didn’t have a voice or no knowledge on how to prevent cancer.
I have overcome so many challenges one being the biggest English not my first Languague when I would try out for parts or agencies that was sometimes an issue but I learned to use it to my advantage, my accent is what makes me unique. I’m Dominican and I’m so proud of my race and culture, Spanish is my Languague and I intend to use that power everyday to open more doors for other talent.
I have learn along this journey to love me! My body and my goofy self. I wouldn’t change any of it. What I would like the world to know is that my goal is to help pave the way to younger and talented artists who are in need of mentorship. I’m here working and will continue to guide as many as I can by creating more workshops and a book with some steps and things to avoid.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love arts, music and nature. I would probably invite them to explore little island, if the summer definetly park to have fun under the sun with the many activities like learning a new dance and watching a movie on the grass. For eating well we can try and hop restaurants like most people do with bars in LA and just try their daily specials.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe a lot to my support group without those friends that can push you to move forward even at your lowest I can’t tell you how I would be now. My bestfriend who always would tell me the pros and cons. My Real Catwalk family who always gives me access to information, training and advocacy in my life. And the many self motivation books and stories from so many great creators who have inspired me to continue on this journey.
