We had the good fortune of connecting with Indrani Desouza and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Indrani, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I believe that taking risks is the life blood of anybody that is pursuing a career in the arts. If you don’t take the risk, you’ll never get to the beautiful rewards.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work is all about the wonderful actors that I am lucky enough to work with. As an acting teacher it is so exciting to see my students grow and evolve as artists. I am the most proud of watching students that I’ve taught as complete beginners to now working as professional actors on set in the Hollywood mainstream.

I believe the one thing that makes me who I am and successful as a teacher are the relationships that are rooted in trust that I have cultivated with my students. There are so many acting teachers in Los Angeles, but not all of them deserve your trust.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I think taking people out who are coming to Los Angeles for the first time you always have to take them to the beach, so a drive up the coast to Malibu and stopping in at the Malibu Country Mart for lunch are necessary. Maybe if you’re feeling a little extra rich you can go to get sushi at Nobu on the beach.

I also love going to the Roosevelt Hotel in the middle of Hollywood. There’s a great bar upstairs called The Spare Room with an old school two-lane bowling alley and fantastic craft cocktails. You can also catch a movie across the street at Mann’s Chinese Theater, make sure to view the hand and foot prints of actors from so long ago, it’s an amazing history of what makes Hollywood so special around the world.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would be remiss if I did not thank my amazing mother Gloria Desouza for her support in the arts (even when it was challenging). George Randolph for giving me my first break with a full dance scholarship so many years ago, and Aaron Speiser for his diligent mentorship in guiding me to be the kind of teacher that I am today.
