Meet Elizabeth Alligood | Founder of the Elizabeth Alligood & Associates, coach, and making your real estate dreams come true!

We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Alligood and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elizabeth, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
So many people think this industry is easy. There was an influx of people getting their real estate license in the past few years who had that mentality. And now…when the market is more normalized, there’s a shortage of homes yet an influx of buyers, you have to work even harder just to survive. I also probably get a couple times a week of people asking me if it’s like the reality TV shows…it definitely is not, and you shouldn’t believe everything you see on TV. Especially reality TV. Real estate is one of the most litigious industries you can be in and as a real estate agent. There are so many moving parts even before you get into escrow that people don’t see or realize. Plus, you have to coordinate with different individuals in different sectors-lending, title, escrow, etc. Managing timelines and contingency periods, scheduling and pivoting when things don’t go as planned. Managing expectations, and you’re handling the sale of someone’s biggest asset or purchase. There’s a lot of things that could go awry and if you don’t know what you’re doing, it’s going to be costly for you and for your client. Plus, when you’re a real estate agent, you’re not guaranteed a paycheck every month. You REALLY have to love what you’re doing and be passionate about it. I guess the new phrase should be “if it was easy, everyone would still be in this industry”.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m the founder of the Elizabeth Alligood & Associates. We specialize in residential real estate and I have agents all the way in Fresno and down to San Diego and everywhere between..and soon Oregon. We’re not a big team, but I love that about us. We are more like a family than anything. Every agent can count on each other if they need help, there are no egos and every one of us is unique in our own way and bring a lot of value to the table. We work with first time homebuyers, sellers, investors, we help people with relocation and more. We always do more than what’s expected of us, and we are so passionate about our industry and dedicated to perfecting our craft. You hear it all the time, “find a career that you love so you’ll never work a day in your life”, and that’s how my agents and I feel about being real estate agents. I absolutely love it and it never feels like work. Our clients become our extended family and just thinking that each and every one of them chose us to represent them in the biggest sale or purchase of their life…I mean…how can you not feel so honored. I absolutely love that I get to be a part of their lives and I get to be a part of their other moments-engagements, weddings, baby showers, my clients even call me when they get promotions and even during hard times (divorce, deaths)…that truly means so much to me. What more could you ask for, I’m the luckiest real estate agent in the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friends were visiting and stayed for at least a week or even longer I would take them to Mammoth for some snowboarding/skiing fun. That’s where we would start. Then down to Solvang….this is such a charming little town and is only 30 minutes from Santa Barbara but you feel like you were transported to a different country. I’d take them through the wine country and end at Maverick’s for some line dancing and country fun. Then down the coast, take them through Santa Barbara, Malibu, head to West Hollywood and Beverly Hills. We would go to the rooftops like EP & LP, Proper Hotel, then the Polo Lounge, head to Santa Monica, and then to Hatchet Hall (which got a Michelin star….you must get the corn bread!). Head through the South Bay-Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach then to Terranea which is one of my favorite spots (a quick round of 9 hole golfing), have a quick bite and watch the gorgeous sunset on the cliff. I love activities and exploring so the trip would be jam packed!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I always say that you never do anything alone. You have mentors-good and bad throughout your life. My biggest mentors would be my mom and my dad. They taught me discipline, to always do the right thing, help others and to never give up. They’ve been there for me through the good and the bad times and without them I wouldn’t be where I am today.
