We had the good fortune of connecting with Aja Font and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aja, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My daughter Joy who was around five at the time, received an opportunity to become a brand ambassador for a children’s clothing line. The clothing company requested professional pictures of her. At the time, money was tight, so I ended up taking her pictures myself, and they came out amazing. I not only gained the attention of the clothing company, but others as well, who encouraged me to go into the photography business professionally.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My business is called Count It All Joy Photography. Not just named after my daughter, but because I count every experience with every client an honor and privilege. My business is faith based so God is the center of everything that I do. Getting to where I am today was not easy. I experienced a lot of lows, made a lot of mistakes, over AND underestimated a lot of things. But you learn from your mistakes. And you keep going.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a mom of three little ones, and most of my friends are moms too. So honestly, I think a day of relaxation would be ideal! Starting off at Burke Williams for a day at the spa and massages, maybe lunch and drinks, ending the day with a a good ol’ Target run lol!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shout out to my muse, the reason and inspiration behind me starting my business in the first place; My daughter Joy. I’d also like to acknowledge my church family, Christ Second Baptist Church Long Beach for recognizing my work, and for continually supporting my business. Lastly, I’d like to thank my entire family. Specifically my husband Maurice for your unwavering love and support in my endeavors.
