We had the good fortune of connecting with Gefen Skolnick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gefen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was always a huge coffee drinker, many people’s coffee fanatic friend. I was waiting to see people come up with a great concept for the next generation of coffee drinkers, something fun, funky, and approachable. I grew impatient and started tinkering with the idea of Couplet Coffee, and then it became reality!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Couplet Coffee is the next generation’s favorite coffee brand. We are aiming to bring a new kind of coffee culture to the forefront that is rooted in inclusivity, fun, and a little bit of notoriety for our boldness and queerness. We are set apart by culture, media, and our branding as well as our packaging. Getting to where we are today has been a really wild ride, and we have a long way to go, but we are all so excited about where are going. The lessons have been abundant but the biggest one is that we have been chipping away at our mission every single day since the day we launched. It takes patience, community, and network to become a true and trusted brand from a consumer’s standpoint. We are young but are confident you’ll be hearing about us for years to come as we aim to stay fruitful, innovative, and fun for all.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite spots in the city range from different coffee shops, bars, restaurants and neighborhoods! I’m from LA, so I’ve spent a lot of my adulthood relearning things about different neighborhoods from a different vantage point. I could write several articles about these topics but some of my favorite places to be are at Akasha restaurant in Culver City, Rocketship Coffee in West Hollywood, and The Ruby Fruit in Silverlake. My favorite neighborhoods are Highland Park, Silverlake, Culver City, Santa Monica and Arts District.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a massive shoutout to my parents, Dror and Sharon. They are big inspirations for me in business and life, and my trusted confidants in all my endeavors and tribulations. They are self-made entrepreneurs and have always worked so hard for their kids to have job security, food security, and an amazing home and childhood. They deserve all the flowers and more.
