We had the good fortune of connecting with Cult Vega and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cult, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
The art form, I visualize everything I see and have ideas that won’t be applied till 10 years later.. Cinema has been at a standstill point where most directors we have all looked up to are at the end of their careers. Very little new directors have been able to make a statement with their work since independent films are not being pushed out as much. Which is why I respect a company like A24 pushing the needle forward. Cult Vega is an identity that I want future creatives to recognize in history as a person that changed the art form for everyone.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Any piece of art I create is who I am at that point in time. With future projects when I direct my work onto the Hollywood screen every project will be under a different name, I don’t want an individual to say “I miss the old Cult.” Every project is a different side of who I am and where I want to take my art. Where I got where I am today has been through constantly working for many years as an editor. Networking has always been second nature which is how I have gotten to work with so many great people. Think it is always important to just be an human being to a person and reach out to people who really do inspire you. You’d be surprise the people I have talked with just because I reached out to say I love their work. A challenging part is always people that look at you when you say “Im a Director.” People in general that see an artist pursue a career they don’t consider it even a profession. Yet they are the same people who use passing time to watch what artists make as entertainment for them to watch.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Cafe 50’s is a great spot with atmosphere and amazing food. Venice beach you could never go wrong it’s iconic and Santa Monica Pier is right there as well. Joshua Tree as well if you are into hiking. Last one would be Disneyland it has gotten more expensive but still good experiencenone the less and has great food as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Everything is because of my parents, they support me when most peoples parents wouldn’t let their child pursue an artistic passion. Any future awards is all for them, I just want to create. Inspiration shoutout is to Kanye, Gaspar Noe and Rick Rubin. People I have met like Dalves who has helped me and is just an awesome creative that has put me on to other side of what it is to be an artist. Last one is to my brother Loofus who has always helped me out. Thank you to anyone that has supported me in anyway.
