We had the good fortune of connecting with forsetî and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi forsetî, what do you want your legacy to be?
Legacy is something I’m constantly thinking about. As modern artists we all have a very low barriers to entry in the music industry and as a result it’s very hard to stand out in the long run, let alone the short term. Luckily I find myself fortunate enough to have found a fairly unique combination of two of my greatest interests: fantasy/sci-fi and electronic music. When I’m dead and gone I hope to have created a lasting and rich auditory world across a huge variety of albums, singles, collaborations and even video games and film if I’m lucky enough.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Creating and promoting music in an unexplored space is simultaneously liberating and near impossible. The creative possibilities while writing are essentially endless as there are entire worlds to take inspiration from. My favorite fantasy setting, Middle-earth, serves as arguably my biggest creative source as its qualities resonate most with me: subtlety, but with poignant striking moments. So I have no shortages when it comes to story/intellectual fuel. But seeing as there are so few artists who consciously release and promote fantasy-inspired dance music specifically, there are very few places to reference when I find myself sonically stuck or uninspired.

To speak more musically I find the challenge of musical minimalism to be one of the more fulfilling aspects of my own project. There’s just something so special about creating memorable and satisfying moments with the least amount of notes and chords you can manage that still stand on their own without needing a ton of embellishment and flair. In other words this is just me trying to find earworms haha

On the other hand, many fantasy/sci-fi stories have overtly extravagant, saturated, bombastic, and over-the-top worlds. And I would be lying if I said I didn’t want an output for this vibe too. Luckily I’ve been able to scratch that itch more with my main partner in crime, Viligir, under our collaborative project “Fae Wild”. We have an album we released called “Realms Revealed” and a bunch of upcoming music on our record label “World Tree Records” that explores those kinds of spaces more than my solo project.

More generally it’s been hard to attract interest in such an oversaturated market, but that is its own interesting challenge that I’ll overcome with time.

All of that is to say it hasn’t been easy or straightforward in the slightest, but it has been more rewarding than anything else I’ve done so far in my life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Warm weather: brunch + swim at the beach, acquire boba from one of the many good spots across LA, museum hopping (both Getty’s are cool), Beelman’s in downtown for one of the best vegan food + bar spots, a nightclub then the afters

Cold weather: used bookstore shopping, vintage thrifting, coffee shop trying (shoutout Barclay’s in the Valley), Silverlake Ramen, a nightclub then the afters

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost shoutout to all my friends and colleagues in the industry who have helped and shaped me in a variety of ways. None of this is worth doing without community and connection: Viligir, Steven Spielvogel, plingplang, Cyboy, Julian Gray, Sailorvee, Marakkas, ZincOxid3, FÜÜLROD, Incvrn8, and Just Levi. These people have all been a huge help personally and professionally.

And secondly to these legendary people: J.R.R. Tolkien and his unbelievably captivating world, Frank Herbert and his original Dune books, Hayao Miyazaki, Howard Shore, Hans Zimmer, and the following artists/bands and their uniquely inspiring journeys: The Contortionist, David Bowie, Björk, Heilung, Led Zeppelin, Rush, and Porter Robinson/Virtual Self.
