Meet Megan Williams | CEO | The Self Publishing Agency

We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Like many entrepreneurs, The Self Publishing Agency started as a result gap in the publishing industry. Where could smart, entrepreneurial authors go for professional publishing support, without having to pay royalties for their work?
It didn’t exist, so we built it.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The best part about working in this lane of the book publishing industry, and one I am most proud of, is helping people’s books get out into the world.
When someone decides to publish the story that has lived inside of them for however long, when that story gets released, it becomes part of other people’s lives.
That story will rest on nightstands, sits on bookshelves, and will be brought up in conversations that the author will never know about.
That is the unquantifiable thing about book publishing and what makes me happiest to go to work every day, motivates me on the long days, and proudest of what we’ve built.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is extra bouche and predictable I know, but I love having meetings, lunch and a wander in Beverley Hills and Abbot Kinney.
My favourite evening itinerary for friends is Matsuhisa or Freds, followed by The Comedy Store. Or visa versa.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Well, if we go back to when core beliefs were being established, my parents really laid the foundation. My parents had a “figure it out, then try it” approach to all my creative, imaginative ideas. The fundamental belief that everything can be figured out and trying is the first step to discovery, has given me an entrepreneurial confidence that I’m grateful for.
Consequently, the friendships, relationships, mentors and colleagues I enjoy most have a similar “unblocked” confidence when it comes to trying new things.
Long answer short, I give credit to the clever, “5-10 people I spend the most time with.”
