Meet Rye Randa | Music Producer, Composer, Singer, Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rye Randa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rye, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
In my view, success is not a single destination where one can arrive, but rather a perpetual, lifelong winding road, with many twists and turns, hills and valleys. For me, true success is the ability withstand the highs and the lows, with an open heart, and a dedication to stay true to yourself, your passion, and your dreams. It means having the commitment and dedication to persevere in the moments when you want to give up, and in the moments when you feel like you’ve failed. I’ve had many moments throughout my career where I’ve wanted to give up… but I always come back to the inevitable realization that I’ve been blessed with unique gifts and talents that I alone possess. It is my honor, my privilege and most importantly my responsibility to share these gifts with the world, and to use them to be a force for good, and a benefit to those around me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My gift is my ear… and I’ve built an entire business around it. I’ve been creating music for myself and for others since I was a teenager. If I wasn’t playing, singing or recording my own music, I was collaborating as a producer or songwriter with other artists and singers to bring out the absolute best in their art. I have the gift of hearing beyond what most people hear. This allows me to deliver a product that no one else in the world can. My language is sound. My language is music. My clients entrust me to lift their music and their voice to be seen in the best possible light, and I don’t stop until I hear the “click”, when everything falls into place. Whether I’m producing a record, writing a song, or scoring a film, my ear is what guides the journey.
Getting out of my own way has probably been the biggest challenge I’ve faced. My perfectionism for the most part is an asset to those I work with. At times, however it has gotten in the way of the efficiency that’s required in a business that can be extremely fast-paced with quick deadlines and turnaround times. Nonetheless I’ve learned that staying true to myself and my instincts has inevitably proved to work in my favor and to the benefit of those I work with.
When building a successful business, your clients have to trust that you are the only one in the world who can align with their vision, see it through to the end, and bring their project to fruition. That is the very trust I have been fortifying for almost three decades. This is the key factor to which I attribute my success thus far. My brand is about integrity, trust and commitment to a single vision. I’ve had the privilege of having my music heard throughout the world on networks such as NBC, CBS, FOX, HBO, NETFLIX, USA, TNT, DISCOVERY, ESPN, GSN, HISTORY, and many more. It has been an incredible ride, and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m not ashamed to say to say this would primarily revolve around food! Let’s face it, LA has some of the best food on the planet. For breakfast we would go to Hugo’s for Pasta Mama, Desayuno Fuerte, or pretty much any of their HUGE menu of breakfast items. Then we’d go for a quick hike/walk around the lake at Franklin Canyon, a gorgeous spot only known to locals. For lunch, HOPE Organic Thai. Hands-down the best vegan Thai in the city. After lunch we’d go get a coffee at Peets and do a little shopping. For dinner Kiwami. Best sushi in the valley. So that’s just one day, but if we had the time I’d take them to Disneyland. Having grown up in LA we’d go to Disneyland at least once a year. It goes without saying there’s not place like it, and a trip to Cali wouldn’t be complete without it! If my friend was staying through Sunday, we would absolutely go to a service at Agape International Spiritual Center to hear an inspiring talk by Reverend Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith. It’s an experience unto itself, that you can’t get anywhere else in the world.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ll start out by dedicating this shoutout to my mom, Tina Randa. She has believed in me every moment of every day of my entire life. I would be nowhere without her support, encouragement, unconditional love and friendship. She herself was a professional singer from the time she was 10 years old. She sang in a vocal trio called The Crystalettes (aka The Dispoto Sisters) with two of her younger sisters. They were in fact one of the very first acts to be signed by Herb Alpert at A&M Records in the sixties. This was always a source of inspiration to me, and was probably the first thing that led me down the path of music. Like my mom, I started out as a singer. I was fortunate enough to get the singing “gene” from her. I’m forever grateful for her inspiration, which from a very young age ignited my journey of discovering and developing my own voice. Over time, my love for singing formed various tributaries into other areas of music, such as recording, producing, engineering, and ultimately composing for TV & film…
This leads me to the next person I want to dedicate this shoutout to… Jeff Foxworth. Jeff has been my composing and business partner since 2007. We formed our company, The Ontic in 2009 after landing the NBC primetime series “The Wanted”. Since then we have worked together on countless TV, film & advertising projects. Jeff isn’t just my incredibly talented and gifted co-composer and business partner, but he is a true friend, my “brother-from-another-mother”, who has inspired me and lifted me up at times when I wanted to give up. I’m forever grateful to Jeff for his support and friendship, and for paving the way for us into the composing world…
Lastly, I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my beautiful wife, Dee and my beautiful daughter, Charlei who love me, support me and inspire me every single day. My life is so very precious because of you!!
