Meet Tony Prince | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tony Prince and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tony, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I am a big proponent of taking risks and I rely heavily on my instinct to help make good decisions in uncertain situations. I’ve always gravitated towards adrenaline filled sports and activities like skydiving, motocross, bungee jumping, skateboarding or traveling. I absolutely love excitement that comes along with taking risks!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career first started in the financial and operations sectors of the IT industry, but my path to becoming a photographer started after a long travel trip to Southeast Asia. I had taken a ton of photos during that year of traveling, so while I was in Cambodia, I printed some postcards of my photos and asked for donations in exchange for a postcard. The result was pretty good, so I did the same thing in Japan, which had an even better outcome. I returned to the U.S. many months later and then decided to pursue photography as a profession in the South Bay.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Whenever I have out of state friends or family visiting the South Bay, I try to show them all of the main tourist spots first; Manhattan Beach, Venice Beach, Santa Monica, etc. Most of the time they’ll also want to visit the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which is usually disappointing to those who have high expectations of seeing an actual celebrity. Next up would be a hike to the Hollywood sign and then a trip through Beverly Hills, then back to the South Bay for some good local places to eat and drink. If time permits, a road trip on highway 1 up to San Francisco is always a good time!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shoutout to my wife, family and friends, who have always been so patient and encouraging throughout my journey of becoming a photographer. I’d also like to thank Jefferson Graham for taking me under his wing early on and showing me how to shoot events properly.
