We had the good fortune of connecting with SARAH HOGENESCH and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi SARAH, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We are Chris and Sarah, the founders of LACES. We started Los Angeles Co Ed Soccer because we love the game of soccer and love the way soccer brings people together. This league is all about having fun, making connections, and good friendly competition. There are other leagues out there that are competitive leagues where winning is the most important thing and the main reason people come out and play. This is not what we are about!

Of course we welcome good friendly competition, but the primary function of our league is for people to have fun and make connections.
For this reason, in addition to the games, there will be social mixers and other social events that are designed for people to meet up and get to know their fellow players off the field. Sometimes in our city of Los Angeles everyone is kind of spread out, and making meaningful connections can be challenging. The goal of L.A.C.E.S. is to bring those people together behind the uniting force of soccer!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We love the Los Angeles CoEd soccer helps build community and create friendships in Los Angeles. The our players are having fun on and off the field with other players. We are an inclusive soccer league where all are welcome. Regardless of skill level or whether you are joining by yourself, with a few friends or as a full team we have a place for you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my friend to the beach, Santa Monica pier for sure. We would swim in the ocean and definetly rent bikes. Possible due a whale watching tour. Lots of hiking, to include Eaton Canyon and the Hollywood sign. Griffith Park observatory would be a must along with Huntington Gardens. Of course some of the local coffee shops, Lavendar and Honey. And of course the food….probably the vegan street fair. Some local breweries.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We want to thank the players who show up each game and season after season. If it weren’t for them we wouldn’t be able to have the soccer league.
