We had the good fortune of connecting with Wendy Gladney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wendy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have been in business since 1992 and when I first started it was because I was fulfilling a need for a friend’s business. I have always been good at organizing events and functions but I did not know I could get paid for providing such services.

What should our readers know about your business?
I started my business in 1992 as an event management firm. Over time I also included community relations and sponsorship development into my business until around 2009. In 2009 I transitioned into doing more consulting, coaching, and strategic engagement helping small businesses, nonprofits, and entrepreneurs grow their businesses. I got to where I am today by learning when to pivot and how to recognize how to use my gifts and talents to help others become their best selves. Being an entrepreneur is never really easy, but persistence will see you through and I have held onto my faith, family, and community to keep me on the right track.

Over the past 3 decades, I have learned so many lessons, but one in particular is if you have a heart for people, people will stick with you as you continue on your journey. I believe our season of greatness can always be before us. My brand and story is the belief that anything in life can be handled through the power of forgiveness. I believe when we learn how to forgive others we can release a lot of pain and issues in our lives so that we can become our best selves.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is such an interesting question. I would start by bringing them to my home. I have always been told that two of my gifts are hospitality and encouragement. I would make them feel comfortable and special while they were visiting. I would spoil them with homemade goodies. Then I would find out what they really wanted to do and what they like to do. If they left it up to me a couple of my favorite restaurants are Crustaceans in Beverly HIlls and The Ivy. I also enjoy Harold & Belle’s Restaurant in the Jefferson Park area. I would then give them a tour of Southern California by taking them up the Coast and seeing areas from San Diego up to Santa Barbara. We would stop along the way to relax, reflect and rejoice in the beauty of nature.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
