Meet Katie Garland-Noble | Filmmaker + Writer + Podcaster

We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Garland-Noble and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katie, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
Always eat dinner before dessert. My great-grandmother, who lived to be 105 years old, always ate dessert first. So sometimes I eat dessert first, too!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started out writing and producing short films, one of which is called PIKE AND BIRD. Then I pivoted to production and produced two feature films THE ONE YOU FEED (2020) and REBEL//REBEL (2024). Now, I’m returning to my creative roots and writing and producing a feature this year. I’m also working on a true-crime podcast about a young woman who went missing over 40 years ago. I love the creative process and storytelling is my true passion.
Nothing I’ve done has been easy. I believe that it never gets easier, we just get stronger and more skilled at managing the challenges life throws our way. I overcome challenges through my extreme (and sometimes shocking) positivity. Somehow, I always manage to find a bright spot in any situation and it’s gotten me very far. Also, I try to keep a bird’s eye view of the goal I am accomplishing in my head. For example: making a movie. There are countless and almost endless roadblocks to writing and producing a feature film. I just keep picturing the movie out in theaters or out on Amazon Prime. Even when the odds are stacked against me and I don’t know how I’ll pull through, I force myself to envision the finished product. It works.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In the past, I might have suggested hiking to the top of the Hollywood sign then going to a really good Mexican restaurant for fish tacos and margaritas. Though that still sounds fun, I’m a mom now, and I love doing activities that my one-year-old son will enjoy. So, I’d recommend:
Day 1: Packing peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and juice boxes and going to Disneyland.
Day 2: Heading to Huntington Beach for a day in the sun and sand.
Day 3: Going to Griffith Park for a walk and picnic, then to the Griffith Observatory.
Day 4: Visiting the Santa Monica Pier and riding the carousel.
Day 5: Taking a gondola ride in the Venice Canals.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate this shoutout to my Dad. He’s been eternally supportive of my journey as a creative person and as a human. He’s also a writer, and my forthcoming screenplay is inspired by a book trilogy that he wrote.
